Memorial Day Flea Market Finds

It was a great week having Mike home, even though it was a 'working vacation' (oxymoron ?). About twice a year he takes some time off to work on things around the house/yard. A lot was accomplished~rototilling, planting the garden, fixing one of the outbuildings, opening the pool, mowing & trimming, miscellaneous puttering, etc. We did take some time to have fun, and one of those times was going to the the annual Memorial Day flea market. This is what I found:

Some fabrics~
~a tiny purple floral on white and a vintage red print which, to me, said 'apron' (more on that in a later post)
~a large floral
~another vintage print
~a pretty floral with birds

~and finally this blue (50's ?) print
~and I found this pretty embroidered linen case for forks
~I also found 3 wire locker baskets which I love for storage, a wicker picnic hamper to add to my growing collection, and a black stand which I bought because I loved its curvy base. It is presently being slightly modified to hold cookbooks. And I will show you pictures in another post of the two vintage aprons I found.

The rest of the Memorial Day weekend was great and I was thankful for the beautiful weather we had. On Saturday Stephanie and her horse Sparky took third place in an eventing competition and Sunday we had a nice family get-together. I'll post some more about the rest of the week~our canal bike ride pictures and some garage sale finds~in another post.

Thank you, everyone, for your visits and kind, kind comments!

  3. It's nice to hear that you had such a wonderful week with your family. I'm happy you're back to posting though...I missed you. Wow, you guys accomplished a lot! Great flea market finds. I thought apron when I saw that particular fabric too. I really like stacking picnic hampers the way that you do. I have a few of the flat top wooden picnic baskets that I use that way. So great for storage!

The fabrics you found are very pretty. I, too, found an old picnic basket this weekend at our church bazaar.

  10. Love your embroidered linen case. Once when my daughter & I were browsing in an antique shop, there were embroidered pieces similar to this, folded over like a purse flap and were sold as small pillows. I've always wanted to try that and had forgotten about it. They were delightful, just like your piece is.
