miscellaneous stuff

I hope you all had a great weekend and a nice Father's Day. We spent Sunday at the lake with family for a BBQ and the weather was gorgeous for it.
Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in the apron giveaway! I am keeping a list of names for each apron and will have the drawing on Friday, so there is still plenty of time for anyone who is interested. Just leave me a comment or send an e-mail; be sure to let me know if you would like to be entered for one in particular, or both.
Yesterday was spent attacking my 'to do' list for the week. In less than 2 weeks we are leaving on a camping vacation and there is so much to get ready. Before we leave, I have lots of grading and paperwork to get done and into the school district for homeschooling. And, this coming weekend we are having a garage sale so I am trying to gather everything I need to get rid of and get it priced.
I have a set of oak pressed back cane seat chairs to sell, but one needed a new seat so yesterday I spent some time removing the old one. Here it is waiting to be finished ~ my goal is to get to that today.

I made some spaghetti sauce and an apple pie also. This is probably not news to most, but one thing I have found that has made rolling out a piecrust so much easier, is a pastry cloth and the stretchy cloth that covers the rolling pin. I use much less flour to roll the dough out and it never sticks. I love it !
I also recently discovered a great pattern and tutorial for making headbands. The free pattern is being offered by Heather Bailey and they are so cute! You can see them at her blog. Country Living has a beautiful patriotic bunting you can make with directions on-line. I would love to fit in making one before the 4th of July but am afraid that's not going to happen.

Also a couple blogs I've discovered ~ knitwear, stitchery, and textile designer Kristin Nicholas has one called Getting Stitched on the Farm with a great article today on summer stitching for kids. And A Place Called Home is a very nice new blog by Susan P. which I'm already enjoying.

  1. Wow, you've shared so many lovely things today! Wonderful post. Thank you!
I just discovered Heather Bailey yesterday too. The baby bootie pattern she is sharing is a sweet one too.
I like your chairs. That is one of my favorite styles of country furniture, so I would be very tempted to visit your sale if I lived closer.
I wish my baked things looked as marvelous as yours!

  2. You've been busy. Thanks for all the new info. I looked at Susan's site the other day. I like it already, too.

Now I'm going to check out those headbands.

  3. Hi Debbie! I really like your old cahir, I think it will be very nice when you start working on it.
Should you paint it or make a new cushion?

  4. Debbie, oh my gosh, thank you so much for your kind mention of my blog. I was truly humbled! I have been coming to your blog for quite some time and always love your ideas. Your home is so cozy and warm and would be a place I know I would want to visit. It is so nice to have friends that share the love of home and family. BYW, I would LOVE a slice of that apple pie!
    Blessings,
    Susan P.

I followed Mrs. Staggs over here and have enjoyed reading your blog.

I'd love to enter the drawing for the red apron, I'm from the pre-dryer era and remember hours spent with clothespins very well.

  6. Hi! Thanks so much for mentioning my blog "Getting Stitched on the Farm" on "Homespun Living". I just found it via a link when I was at the library (very slow connection at my house). I love what you're doing with your blog. I'll come back and read often - even if I don't have the time to comment.

    Thanks again!
    Kristin Nicholas
