~do you sing as you work?~

"Most of the men sang or whistled as they dug or hoed. There was a good deal of outdoor singing in those days. Workmen sang at their jobs: men with horses and carts sang on the road; the baker, the miller's man, and the fish-hawker sang as they went from door to door; even the doctor and parson on their rounds hummed a tune between their teeth. People were poorer and had not the comforts, amusements, or knowledge we have today; but they were happier. Which seems to suggest that happiness depends more upon the state of mind - and body, perhaps - than upon circumstances and events"

We do sing while we work...and play. It's one way that I keep my mind focused on things above. My little ones, 1 and 2, have also picked up on the singing. They both like to hold a song book though.

  4. "Wistle while you work!"-Snow White. :-P I mostly sing/"la la la"/ hum. Due to the fact that I can't seem to remember a full set of lyrics. :-)

Yes, but it's usually followed by "Mommmmm, what's that howling"!
Loved the hyacinths in the cup!

  7. I usually sing when I work too. I think happiness and contentment can be found in the simple things, if only we'd let ourselves.

  10. No, I don't, but I've been known to dance a little dance while listening to some of my favorite tunes!
My son used to whistle while he "worked" as a little boy. I always knew when he was most content in what he was doing by that sweet sound.

  11. I take it from this post that you are enjoying the book?! I am so glad. The copy you have is the same as the first one I got, I loaned it to a neighbour who managed to ruin it so now I have the hardback. Love your corner, specially the birdcage.

  12. I love this post!
I have read a few of her poems and they are so beautiful and thoughtful. It is right though, about that people seemed happier before. Now they don`t have the time, time, time...Even though Nederland is a beautiful country and the people who lives her are nice, i love Norway much more because they make the time to spend their time more wisely. And i really think they are more happy. It sounds and look like that. They smile more! Here, they are so stressed all the time. Not strange really when so many people are stuffed together in such a small country. But at the countryside they seems more relaxed and happier. My postman sometimes whistles :) I like that!
