thrift store treasures

Though it's been a busy vacation week, Mike & I took time to check out the thrift store. For 25 cents apiece I picked up these little tin molds...

...with the idea of using them as candleholders...

I found this cotton rag rug for $5. It's in excellent shape, and I love that I can just throw it in the washer & dryer when needed...

A vintage book for $1. I have an altered book-sort of project in mind, if I ever finish all my other 'works in progress...

And for $3 this clock for my workroom...

Have a great evening!

I have some that I inherited from my mother-in-law. I always intend to use them on Holidays and I always forget. :)

  6. We would have such fun thrifting together...'course we might have a little problem deciding who "saw it first"! LoL! I pick up these molds whenever I see them. I just love them for some reason. I once a photo of a single paperwhite bulb planted in one. So pretty.
I just bought a rag rug hoping that it and your laundry room inspiration will get me to fixing up mine. I have two cats similar to the one sitting by your door. I'd have a really hard time doing anything to the book though...it's pretty special just the way it is. Beautiful cover.
Everything looks so nice. Hope you enjoy a great weekend.

  7. What great finds! I have two pin cushions purchased at a quilt shop that someone made from little molds like yours. The tops are pieces of old quilts. I did some thrifting today with a friend and found some goodies I hope to transform into new & useful objects d'art. I really like the clock.

My favorite you pictured is the clock! I love it! And also the stool the book is sitting on looks like a great find. (I'm sure you may have even posted on that in past posts.) What a special thrift shop day!

  10. I have these same molds but I still use them. Mine are two different designs. Think mine came from a thrift shop too..maybe 10-15 years ago.
I love the feel and look of rag rugs. Make the house feel homey.

  22. Thank you so much for the idea of using the little molds as candle holders. I found, (while not looking) 15 of them at a thrift shop for ten cents each. I purchased all of them and plan to use them, with tea lights, on my porch, while hosting a faculty picnic in May.
Such a simple but great idea use for something that probably rarely got used.

  23. Just catching up on our blog and loving your thrifty finds! Wow! Great stuff! Another way I've seen others use those great mold tins... is to make them into pin cushions. Love what you did with them too!
Enjoying your inspiring blog as always.

I am so impressed with your home. My husband and Iare in the middle of a 4 year long home remodel. Our goal is to cottagenize (not really a word) our house built in 1964. Outside and in. You have my beadboard on your backsplash, chopping block countertops and my farmhouse sink. The thing that really made me say, " Wow!" was the chicken crate coffee table. I have a crate just like it given to me by my dad and was trying to repurpose it . That table is perfect.
I am the kind of decorator where I like to use what decorates my house. I don't have things for the sake of having nick nacks. Your website is an inspiration, because not everyone thinks outside the box so beautifully.
