beating the heat

It's 93 degrees F in the shade today, so other than the most basic chores and some laundry this is where I will be ~ on the glider with some stitching & reading material, enjoying the shade, the pool, and some classical music in the background.
I'm embroidering these two tea towels, found at the flea market with the red perle cotton, for a special kitchen project. I found the cute teapot transfer patterns free online, and the lace that I have had for years has finally found a purpose.
And I'll be working on my summer reading list, which so far includes ~
Larkrise to Candleford by Flora Thompson
The Magic Apple Tree by Susan Hill
What is a Family by Edith Schaeffer
Introduction to the Devout Life by St Francis deSales
The Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp
The Scent of Water by Elizabeth Goudge
Hope you are having a great day!

  2. It looks like a lovely day is planned. I enjoy embroidering while overlooking the pool ... from our upstairs deck (because my children are splashing wildly)! :o) Your embroidery designs look adorable; thank you so much for the link!

I keep seeing Larkrise to Candleford everywhere; I've got to get that book and read it!

  4. I can't wait to see the finished product!

When we're at the pool, I'm IN it. It has been over 95 every day here and the humidity is horrible. I got these great floats for me and my sister and we loll about while the girls play. Heaven.

    Happy stitching!

    Hi Deb,
Yes, we broke the 90's too and I did the same as you, dangled in the pool, did some reading and just watched the children play! Thanks for sharing the free patterns, I just adore that teapot, I can't wait to see yours finished. Hey, I am off to Tasha Tudor's for a garden tour--have you read her garden book? You would looooove it:-) Have a great day!

  15. I do a lot of Embroidery and always use those tiny little skiens of thread, never thought to buy the perle cotton. Do they still sell it that way, I see you got yours at a flea market.
Your like me, I always come home from the thrift store, garage sale etc. with all kinds of good stuff. I too got a box of buttons this week and lots of other stuff. Stop over and see if you have time. Meanwhile I will look into that perle cotton thing.

  19. Oh boy, sitting by the pool looks wonderful. And that embroidery is darling. Thank you for sharing the pattern with us. I've got a "Good Cooks Beat All" tea towel almost completed. Next, the teapot!

Also wanted to say that I like your reading list. I've read "Larkrise" and loved it. Also appreciate E. Schaeffer's book too. Loved the Goudge book too.

  20. I too love that Elizabeth Goudge book!

My favorite of hers is "The Bird in the Tree". The three that follow that one are great, too.

I'm packing to move, but left out Elizabeth Schaeffer's "The Hidden Art of Homemaking". That one has a special place in my heart also.
