pleasant busyness

Life has been very pleasantly busy lately. I have been knitting my fingers off working on fulfilling dishcloth orders (and wishing I could knit a lot faster!) while watching Dicken's Bleak House (which I am completely engrossed in!) in the evenings. I also made a batch of cold-pressed soap, which I am waiting to reach the stage where it can be cut.

There were lot of nice ripe tomatoes out in the garden still, so I made a batch of salsa yesterday...

In the morning, while I workout on the stationary bike, I 've been reading A Well Kept Home by Laura Frenty. The pictures are beautiful, and it's full of all kinds of interesting household tips and recipes for natural cleaners...

Looking around today, I'm certainly not seeing a 'well-kept' home...

... I seem to have several disaster spots going, and I won't even show you my sewing table!...

...I really need to touch up that missing wording on the table, which suddenly seems so much more noticeable in this photograph!

For all who asked about the labels I used on the lemon curd, I am posting a picture of it in hopes you will be able to copy and paste. My daughter modified this on photoshop for me. In Word, I just paste as many to a page as I can fit and print them out using Avery sticker paper. Then I cut each one out and use them on my recycled Bon Maman jars. I must warn you that I am technically inept and have no idea whether or not this will work ~ Good Luck!Hope you're having a good week!

  1. Hi Deb! Just stopping by to see what's going on at your place in the country. Looks like you really HAVE been busy!!! Wow. Sometimes I forget all the things you can do in a day with grown children.....having the little ones now has really changed my life...but I wouldn't change a thing. :-) Perhaps this time of us not having our own home is good for me, as I would probably be grouchy at everyone for NOT being able to complete all my "projects" . Ah, the humble life......

P.S. Have your leaves started to turn yet? Can you post some pictures sometime??!!!! :-)

  2. Even when it's untidy, your home retains its beauty. The salsa looks good. Thanks for the label. I'll try it later.

  3. As I learned to knit on sat, yesterday I tried knitting a dishcloth, but I'd bought the wrong size wool in cotton, way to thin. Oh well still a lot to learn on the knitting front !

  4. Thanks for sharing a refreshing peek into your day to day reality. But my mess can still beat your mess any day of the week!

  5. Your posts are as inspiring as ever! Bleak House looks like an interesting program - I'll watch out for it in Australia. A Well Kept Home looks like a great read too! A pleasure to visit as always!

  6. That salsa looks delicious and beautiful in the jars! I make homemade salsa about once a week, but I've never put it in jars. Hmmm... maybe that would make a nice Christmas gift?

Your house doesn't look very messy to me. I've been trying for days now to get mine bad spots under control. So far everything is better EXCEPT my office/guest room. I'm lucky there's no company any time soon!

Dear Deb; Rhonda Jean is right even with a bit of books, and knitting around, your house looks inviting and quite cozy. I tried to knit some dishcloths, after seeing yours and Rhonda Jean's but I am a much faster crocheter - is this a word :)so I crochet them instead.
    Happy knitting!

  9. Is that the best you can do with a mess? Oh, hon. My place looks like that when I clean up! Some day I'm going to be brave and make everyone feel good about their homes. I'm going to post a picture of my computer area.

I kinda like the missing words on the table. I actually didn't even see them until you mentioned it. Isn't it funny how critical we are about our own stuff?

Hi Deb, I love these kinds of posts that are glimpse into a regular day! Thank you for the label! I've been looking for labels I can use on the herbs I dried and I think this will work (I may have to resize it).

I agree with Rhonda Jean - even if your home is having a bit of an "off" day, it's still so charming and cozy. I love the chair/desk area. That Laura Frenty book is one of my favorites. And I must say - the salsa looks very yummy - could you pass the tortilla chips please?

  13. Hi Deb
    Great post! The book "A well kept home" looks interesting- I'll look for it as we like to use natural cleaners in our home and are always looking for do it yourself "recipes" :-}

  17. I think your house looks like creativity happens there, and that makes for a beautiful home too.
Thank you for the lovely label. I really like it, and think it should copy and paste just fine.
Your salsa looks so pretty sitting out on the counter like that. It makes me think of a beautiful pantry, its shelves lined with paper lace, and jars and jars of treasure.
    Take care Deb.

  18. I just love your table with the wording around the edge - it's wonderful. I've had that Well-Kept Home book on my wishlist forever. It might have to get moved to the top!

I think I've told you before what an inspiration you are to me. :-) I checked out a Well Kept House from the library this week.

Must look for yarn on spools. :-)

  20. Homemade salsa sounds so good... I love salsa, and I just know your freshly made salsa is just delicious. I am always trying to knit faster. I knit American style which many knitters claim is slower than continental, but I cannot seem to catch on to continental. I think it is a matter of how you learned. Thanks for a beautiful blog...

    Smiles...

  23. You're Busy!
I love to make salsa, but have never jarred it. We have a "salsa garden" and make it up fresh every week or so during the summer.

I think I need that book. My sewing room is definitely off-limits to company the majority of the time.

BTW, Love your Hoosier cabinet, too.

    Deb,

I just found your blog today while doing a search for dishcloth patterns, and I had to comment. I love it. I was beginning to worry that you weren't quite normal until I found this entry and realized that you have feet of clay just like the rest of us domestic engineer wannabees. Great blog, great photos, great ideas... definitely bookmarked as favorite.
