my Christmas vacation #2

First of all, thank you for the birthday wishes and all your comments on my 'altered book' planner ~ I will let you know how it works out over time. And to answer the question about the holes, they were punched by my husband with a hand-held single hole punch (and that wasn't easy)...not sure what you would use for a thicker cover??
~
One of our day trips over Christmas vacation was to an antique co-op about an hour away. It was quite large and on two floors; I lost track of time, there was so much to see.
This little one-cup brown betty teapot was only a couple dollars so I couldn't resist getting it. It's perfect when I'm alone for my midmorning cup of tea...

I also picked up this piece of needlepoint with an idea in mind...

...after being so inspired by this beautiful and creative rug ~ isn't it clever!!

    Hi!
I have the same two teapots plus another designed just a little differently. They belonged to my grandmother & great grandmother.
    I love them!

  5. To punch holes you could try a drill or a grommet punch that is used for leather, or maybe even an awl or ice pick! Those brown teapots are in just all of my sisters houses - we tend to like things that remind us of Nana! Enjoy yours.

    Cheers!

My sister took bookbinding class & they used an awl to punch through the bookboard. You might want to give it a try if you decide to make another book.

If you have a Crop-A-Dile by We R Memory Keepers that might work. I have one, and it works great on chipboard, but I haven't tried it on a book cover.

  9. Oh, so many things to comment on! First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I hope it was a wonderful one.

I love that planner you made. You inspire me to do beautiful things.

Also, it sounds like your shopping trip was great. We used to have a huge antique/thrift store here in town and it was the best place to get lost in. I miss it - it closed a few years ago.

I also like the needlepoint as is - I haven't gone to the link yet. I'm sure I will love it as well.

    Happy New Year to you.

  10. Deb,
I just have to say..."I want your hand made book". I mean it. That is too cool. Especially the French cover. I am French, did you know? On my fathers side. Ghetto French. From Canada. That book should have my name on it. Now that I have vented, I will try to make one on my own!!!

  11. wow, I just love that needlework. I hope you can collect enough to make your rug, though it would be a shame to pur your feet on it!

I have some single hole punches which i assume are similar to yours, and they'll go through most materials with ease (including thick leather). It does make it easier if you put an additional layer underneath, ie some scrap card.

  13. I just recently received two brown teapots from my mother...I love them!

It's been a little while since I've "sneaked a peek" over here, and that must change. You have such wonderful ideas! You have no idea what an inspiration this has been to me!

    Thank you!

  16. I'm the only tea drinker in my home, so a one or two cup pot would be just right. The kids bought me an 8 cup BB, and it plink-plinked as I poured hot water in it for tea and has many hairline cracks. I sent it back.

  17. You find the BEST stuff at the various sales you go to! Love it!

(and love your planner! I've been working on my own, so it's fun to see what others are doing)

  18. I am not about buying new tools so when I needed holes in a book cover I used my hubby's cordless drill and a 1/4 drill bit. The rug idea is wonderful.

  20. I love your little teapots. I have one of the little brown one packed away somewhere. Your house looks so inviting, with the homespun touches but not messy or cluttered! I love the organizer you constructed, too! I have enjoyed the visit.
