on the sewing front

*edited to correct the links ~ sorry everyone! And thank you Mira for letting me know.*
February seems to be a good, quiet month to accomplish indoor projects, and although the basement needs a good cleaning and organizing, I've opted to do some sewing instead.
A couple aprons have been added to the shop. This is one of the aprons' pockets, where I've handstitched a little rooster...

I also decided that I needed some more fabric shopping bags; maybe a little nicer than the plain old totes I've been using for a few years. I ended up cutting out a bunch of them so I could add a few to the shop as well.

This is one, in linen...

...made by using a plastic shopping bag as a pattern.

I've also been stitching up some gifts [which are long overdue], but they will have to remain a secret for now.

Thanks for stopping by!!

  1. That apron is beautiful. I wouldn't want to mess it up by cooking in it!

I also love the shopping bag. Mine are pretty boring and not so attractive.

I just read your post from yesterday. You're so lucky you have those Valentines! They are precious. I wish I had kept some of mine. Thank you so much for sharing and giving me that trip down memory lane.

  7. After all that hard work on the entry hall, I think the basement can wait for sewing. ;o) Lovely work, as usual. I don't see market bags used in the south so much, but when we lived in Maine, it seemed like everyone used them. And I enjoyed your valentines - very cute!

What a great Idea to use a plastic bag as pattern for a new one. Hmmm..thank you!

I also found your old Valentine cards so fun. I hope you had a great romantic day!

Myself are still preparing for opening my own little shop, fun but very much hard work. I hope you will visit it later on?

  9. Great apron and the shopping bag is terrific! I just made a shopping bag using a paper sack as a pattern and added handles. It's nice, but I like yours much, much better. Maybe because it's an interesting style and lined with red/white polka dots. I love red & white polka dots! Mind if I copy you?

  10. Deb,
I just had to comment about your market bags in the shop. I just made a tote for my dd with the exact same lime kitchen towel! And I'm about to make another with the "peach" towel. I really like your market bags using the kitchen towels.

  11. Very cute apron. I've got roosters in my kitchen and I'm going to think about that apron. Great idea on the bags - I should really think about using cloth bags instead of the plastic ones.

Have a great weekend - Karen

Soooooo.....this is the first time I have gotten to check in. :-) My lovely daughter got me all hooked up to the net and now I can at least come and look at my favorite beautiful homes and projects.....it gives me hope when I am sitting here looking at 6 boxes high and "decorations" strewn EVERYWHERE. Ah, moving.....what a way to really see how you deal under stress. Hee hee.

  17. Your shopping bag is really sweet. I have fabric waiting to be made into bags. I have been so busy elsewhere that it has just had to wait. I really think we all should have them instead of using store plastic...I will post mine, if they ever get made...have a good day, mary
