painting, organizing, and notebooking

Before the weather became sunny and warm, I started working on the sewing room/office. The really inexpensive wood-look bookcases are being painted ~ green ~ and the cardboard backs are being replaced with a sheet of beaded board plywood. The beaded board looks much better, although it's impossible to see in the photo... Unloading the bookcase has forced me to weed out un-needed stuff and to get organized. A method I have found, that really works for me, is to keep all the information I love to collect in binders...knitting, project ideas, decorating, bookkeeping, homemaking, tutorials, sewing, etc. So easy to add or remove pages as needed! I decorated the binders with scrapbooking paper and made some P-touch labels...
If you are interested in notebooking, there's a great article here, by Cindy Rushton, that got me started.

  3. That's beautiful!

I just loved Cindy's self published books in our first years of homeschooling.

I had two or three, which I passed down to my daughter when she started homeschooling her oldest.

Yours is a work of art.

  5. Love the notebooking idea.....I had started a house ideas one (as we are building a new home) but didn't even think to branch out with other ideas in other areas. That was also a great idea with scrapbooking paper on the spine of the clear binders.

  6. The binder idea is a much more attractive alternative to file cabinets. I like the open, spiced up look!

  11. That bookcase is really beautiful. I love the color and how everything is all laid out so neatly. I'm going to check out that article. I keep saying I'm making notebooks, and have yet to do it. I get so overwhelmed, which I know is silly. Thanks for sharing some motivation with me.

Your binders looks so pretty Deb! I love binders for organizing. I'm going to check out the article you mentioned too.

You did a lovely job painting the bookcases. I used a similar green in my baby girl's bedroom, and it's so restful. It's amazing what a difference a coat of paint makes.

I love the idea for decorating the spines for the notebooks. I may just have to try that.

The shelves look great. I had wondered if they would take paint.

    God bless!

oh, I love the idea of the beadboard backing! Great idea! I have that same Target bookshelf for our homeschool books and hate those cardboard backs! We are really into notebooking, too. Actually, I just rediscovered the site notebookingpages.com and downloaded a ton of templates to use in our notebooks. My kids are young (5 & 7) and they really like the already printed pretty pages. They've never particularly been afraid of a blank page, but it does feel like they are more "special". She's really got some great templates!
