lemon cake & domesticity

I am reading and baking my way through the Gentle art of Domesticity by Jane Brocket and am thoroughly enjoying both! I appreciate the term 'domestic artist' and the statement "Domesticity gives us the opportunity to express ourselves..." This morning I skipped ahead to the Lemon Cake recipe and baked a loaf for tea--it's scrumptious! *Just be sure to check out the errata page, as the US edition I purchased has many mistakes in the recipes.*

  1. I've been hearing good things about the book, so shall do something about getting a copy myself. Thank you for letting us know about the errata for the U.S. edition. Also, I love the tea cozy I see in your picture.

  2. That cake looks divine, and the setting of your kitchen with the embroidered tea cozy (from Down to Earth?) is such a homey one.

  5. Thanks ladies!
Renna-you're right, Rhonda made the embroidery that I sewed into a tea cozy.
Cinnamon-I would love to share the recipe, but I think that would violate the copywrite.

I got this book for Christmas and have relished every chapter. So far, the only recipe I've made are the scones - but my family said they were the best ever. Thanks for the tip about the errata page.

  15. I bought that book, and I really like it. I like lemon pound cake too, and have been having that with my afternoon tea this week, but I admit that I bought mine. I'll have to look for this recipe in the book. Thank you for mentioning the errors.

    Happy Spring Debbie.
