I love June...

I'm thinking that there is not a month more beautiful than June, and I cannot hardly believe that there is little more than a week of it left. Our weather has been warm and wonderful with deep blue skies and quite a bit of sunshine--something we never take for granted after our long cloudy winters. We've not had a very rainy spring, although Saturday it rained all day--mostly a gentle misty sort of rain that has done wonders for the roses and all the rest of my flowers {except the poor peonies}.

Friday and Sunday were sunny and warm days, perfect for weeding the gardens, taking a bike ride, sitting on the deck with a glass of wine, and enjoying everything in bloom...

...the peony bush before being downtrodden by the rain.

...lilies, a white rose bush in the corner, catmint, and ever spreading violets.

...my little garden chair is due for some paint I think!

...another new peony bush, a foxglove just beginning to bloom, and a clematis growing up the wagon wheel. I have never been able to keep a clematis alive for long and am still trying to find the ideal location.

..some bleeding heart, alchemilla mollis, and I believe, red valerian??

And the first of the strawberries are just being picked, and they have a heavenly flavor that the store-bought berries can only dream of...I can't wait for enough for that first strawberry shortcake.
Hope your summer is off to a great start!

  2. Lovely pics! I've found that clematis really like to have their bottom parts in the shade. Our clematis are happy with day lillies growing at their base. Try it?

  6. It all looks so lovely. I confess to feeling a twinge of jealousy. It is so HOT here it is difficult to enjoy the outdoors. And oh could we use a day of rain.
Thanks for letting me share your beautiful weather for a while :-)

  7. Beautiful! Violets are wonderful--even in hot Texas they multiply like crazy! I wish we could grow peonies here; yours are gorgeous!

  8. You certainly have a green thumb - everything is so lush and lovely! I have a board missing in my garden chair this summer and the fairy garden sits there - the cat thinks that it's his own personal 'cave' so I dare not move it into the workbench for repairs lest I disturb the harmony of the garden!

  9. Your garden looks just beautiful. I'd so enjoy having rain in June. We've been lucky in Central California having mild weather but not a bit of rain.

Your remodeling projects are always inspirational to me. Love the plank flooring.

  10. It all looks so glorious, especially from Winter here.

My favourites are your splendid lilies and the very lush looking strawberry bed.

Roll on Strawberry Shortcake for you, I'm enjoying Rhubarb Crumble!

  11. I was just browsing some blogs before my coffee is finished and came across yours..I am an avid gardener and just LOVED looking at your beautiful pics. I agree with what Karen wrote about your clematis..they like cool feet, warm bodies. :-)

  12. Everything is looking beautiful! Wonderful photos. I can tell you are much farther north than I, as my Peonies were done blooming by the end of May. We've had an exceptionally wet spring here in Central Illinois - one of the wettest on record. Though now, it's sunny and very, very hot - heat indexes of 100 this week and very humid. Enjoy the summer. :)

  14. Beautiful pictures! I have trouble with my clematis, too! But, like Karen L R suggested, I had read that they like the base shaded so I am trying that tip to see if it helps

  15. Its so fun to see the gardens of fellow bloggers. We just moved into a new home this winter and I'm just starting to work on flower beds. I planted a bleeding heart last night and I can only hope that my flower beds look as beautiful as yours.

I love your beautiful photos of your garden. I was going to share that clematis grows best when they have something planted at the base. I have a grayish white ground cover that blooms white in early June at the bottom of mine. You also might want to check on the amount of sunlight your plant is getting. Here in Va. mine prefer the morning sun.
