recovered footstool

The weather here has been so beautiful ~ 70's and sunny ~ that I have neglected the computer and have been enjoying the outdoors as much as possible. Last evening I sat outside on the glider crocheting, but not on the vertical stripe blanket...as usual I've gotten sidetracked and started something new.
I had this footstool in the basement...

...with a needlepoint cover I made years ago, in my 'needlepoint phase'. It has a very pretty floral design, but note the mismatched dye lots of the wool {due to not buying enough wool the first time} and the pilling. It was time for a change...

This is its new crocheted cover--started yesterday and finished today, very fun, instant gratification.

I used yarn I had on hand ~ mostly wool with some acrylic/wool blends mixed in and a 5mm crochet hook. Peggy Adamik's 'How to Crochet a Granny Rectangle' was just what I needed to get off to the right start.

It's adding a real blast of color to my workroom, where I think it will come in quite handy.

  9. Wow! What an idea. It's so granny chic. I might have to try that on an old 1930's ottoman I was going to get rid of! Too sweet. Thanks for sharing with all of us!

    That's so cute!

I'm convinced that there is nothing you can't do! I however, am hopeless. My husband does all the sewing in our house, because he learned in bachelor survival class. I learned nothing about sewing in school, because it was thought to be an antiquated skill that was unnecesssary in the modern age. I did teach myself to knit and crochet, but I'm painfully slow, and never seem to finish anything.

I wish you were my neighbor, so I could ask you for help!

  17. Hello Deb,

I found your blog mentioned on someones else's, so came over for a visit.

I too live in the country but way over here in Australia in the south western corner!! We have sheep, which you can read about on my blog http://seasonsforsusan.blogspot.com/

Also chooks - you call them chickens; geese; guinea fowls; two dogs and heaps of our own native birds.

I too love bottling as we call it here, making jams, relish, pickles etc. Very satisfying.
