enjoying Autumn

We've been having some great fall weather, perfect today for getting outdoors, soaking up some sunshine {and storing it for the gray months ahead}, and washing windows. I gathered up my bucket of hot soapy water & white vinegar, my long handled brush, and my squeegee and got to work.

After removing the dusty grime from summer, the windows are sparkling clean--all the better to let in the little bit of sunshine we do get over the winter.

{The window frame here--minus any glass--actually hangs from the end of our back deck.}

These pictures are a couple weeks old, and we have since lost all the leaves from the trees. The garden has also been tilled under. My rose bushes are enjoying the cooler weather, and are looking better than they did all summer.
A pile of wood is all ready and waiting to be cut and split for next year's burning. And, the sugar shack is undergoing some minor changes--it looks like we will give sugaring another go, having learned well from our mistakes.
I think we're ready for winter...well, as soon as I finish my "Owls" sweater. I'm hoping to finish up the cabling tonight and maybe actually finish it this week.

  1. Isn't it nice to be getting those fall jobs accomplished? Especially window washing. I still have a few to finish up.

  2. I love all your pictures. I always really like getting ready for winter...getting all snugged in. I don't miss cleaning windows. We had antique rope windows in our house that were drafty & falling apart. I kinda sorta hated to replace them but I love my new easy to clean tilt out windows! :)

  4. Love your building in the first picture! And such beautiful trees. Curious since I'm a native southerner - when you say you're going to give "sugaring" another try, are you referring to maple trees and collecting the sugar/sap?

  5. Really enjoy your entries. I live in Calgary and we are having nice weather lately and the other day I did the very same thing. Got out the window washing kit and everything looks so clear from the inside out!

    I enjoy getting ready for winter. To me, it's spring cleaning in the fall. LOL, I find myself cleaning and getting rid of things just as I do in the spring. I too love your first pic you posted.

  8. Lovely photos. It is indeed wonderful to accomplish the fall jobs... I've been trying to do so between coughing fits. Have been sick for over 2 weeks fighting off this nasty flu.

    Enjoyed the beautiful photos. :)
