troubled...

This is heavy on my heart today.
I would like to recommend {highly} the Parent's Television Council website. If you are at all offended or outraged over the events of last night's broadcast of the American Music Awards on ABC, well, perhaps you would like to check it out.
I watch very little television, and I don't always know what's going on -- the PTC helps keep me informed and makes it convenient to take action.
I'm sad today for our young people...sometimes I just can't be silent.
Thanks for listening.
Deb

Oh my goodness...makes me glad I don't watch TV much...did not know who Adam Lambert was even...but went over to Youtube just to see a clip...that was beyond raunchy! And terribly sad to think this is supposed to be entertaining???!

My sentiments exactly.. this is why I don't like to let my children watch primetime t.v. 8 pm used to be decent for children but no longer. We have to be vigilant as parents.

  3. The worst thing is that something like 45% of the people polled thought Lamberts performance was just good entertainment, according to the web articles I've read. I agree with you, it makes my heart heavy to see how calloused people have become.

  4. I mostly only watch FOX news...and my kids only watch some PBS shows..usually in the morning before we start our schooling. I heard that something nasty happened..but didn't see it. It makes me sad that many who make such inappropriate choices are able to broadcast them for anyone to see. :(

  5. Hokey toot! I had heard it was bad, but had no idea until I went to the site you recommended. As appalling as it is, it does not surprise me. The world is going to hell in a handbasket, and the true gospel of repentance and faith toward God is seldom preached anymore.
    Thanks for the heads up.

  6. I agree 100%, what is going on with our young adults and for some parents to allow their children to be part of this is awful! I am not saying that I am against gay people, it is the behavior of ALL people, whether it be in entertaining, news, it seems there is no longer any values on what we should teach our children.

I was disgusted by the clip of him that ran on the news channel last night! Maybe that's why today I couldn't handle the TV being on, even for the quick morning news. I don't need to feed my soul with garbage. My children are all grown but I am proud to say that I remember being the TV police when they were young and if they were still at home? No TV, Nada, not even one in the house. Not even for Seasame Street. It is truely sad what the world calls entertainment.

  8. Deb....I followed the link on the page you recommended and filed my own complaint with the FCC. We CAN make a difference.

  9. Raunchy wasn't the word for it! I did not see it, not really my genre, but I did see a plug somewhere that prompted me to go over to youtube and OMG!! It is such a waste of a wonderful voice who could be singing for the Lord, instead of Satan. I liked his voice when he was on American Idol but grew very sick of his shananigans.

I really like Taylor Swift but I couldn't stand her opening number on the CMA awards either. It was borderline for me. I wouldn't want my grandchildren to watch her either.

I didn't see his performance when it aired, but I saw the clip on another site, and I was just appalled and disappointed. I was such a fan of Adam Lambert when he was on American Idol, and I was even going to buy his CD....not anymore. I won't support any artist who thinks that such a vulgar, obscene performance is acceptable at all, much less when children are watching.

  12. Oh shoot...Aaron came in this morning telling me he watched it. I'm awfully naive about what's on tv, as I don't watch much at all.

    Thanks for opening my eyes.

  13. So glad you posted this! I didn't know until this morning. I cannot believe that this is considered even close to appropriate for anyone! If all of us who are sickened by this kind of behavior spoke up, it would stop! Thanks!

  14. It is indeed troubling to see the things that are allowed on tv these days.

  15. Thanks for speaking out!!! It's just too easy to look the other way and say "what can I do about it?" Yes, it DOES matter when you act in a way to offend people who are sitting down with their children to watch "entertainment". Let ABC hear from you. I don't think for a minute that they didn't think something controversial would boost their ratings! Shame on them! V.

    Deb,
It's sad, but I rarely let my children watch with me because I'm so nervous that something inappropriate will flash on before I can hit the remote. It is getting more and more difficult to find shows that are compatible with our beliefs and desire to watch wholesome entertainment. Thanks for not being afraid to stand up for what you believe in...we all should.

  17. I don't watch shows like that. They really don't interest me but I did hear about it. I don't have small children to protect but I am disgusted that no one seems to have stardards or dignity anymore.

  18. More often than not, I just shake my head in disgust.

  19. Missed it, we were watching Dragon Tales on Sprout. I understand there is an audience for that, but why not keep it on MTV or premium cable channels? Thanks for the heads up. Lisa

  20. Thank you for the link, Deb. I didn't know about this organization. Thanks for caring enough to try to help your readers protect their children. You're a good soul.

  21. Even though my youngest is twenty, we don't watch any of the music award shows, anymore. I saw that performance shown on the news (over and over).

My son told me he thinks there has been women kissing women on the shows and people didn't say anything but the only reason anyone said something was because it was two guys (unfortunately it seems the other behavior has happened before).

Which tells you about society because teenagers now "accept" the behavior in women. Yuk...

I know from what I see in homeschooled kids at college, this generation is in trouble.

  23. i was very curious about what you were referencing, so i did an internet search. i couldn't find the video in question, but was GLAD i hadn't seen it when i read the details. now look -- i am not religious at all (taoist/buddhist bent) and i'm VERY VERY liberal. i am all for gay rights and this may offend some, but because i support same-sex relationships, I don't mind a public peck in the cheek or hand-holding. But as a teacher, and a decent human being, this kind of stunt is absolutely outrageous. you all are right, television gets worse and worse. i went for years without it, and now that i have free cable it pretty much stays on the food network ALL the time. I have half a mind to file a complaint to the FCC as well ... this is right up there with the madonna/britney thing and janet jackson's "wardrobe malfunction". I am a teacher of preschool children who hopes to someday have children of her own and while they will be taught respect, love, and tolerance for all people they will not watch tv. it is sad what children are facing in this day and age. we must work our hardest to keep this filth off the airwaves. thanks for letting me have my say and for raising awareness on this issue!

  25. I am so with you on this!! i"m by no means a prudish person, but when I watched that award show a few weeks ago, I couldn't believe how horrible and raunchy! The dancing was so over the top sexual, and shouldn't be on a award show like that! Leave the creepiness for MTV!

  26. It really has nothing to do with his sexual orientation and I think that's why this is getting so much press. He's gay, we're ALL over it.

I don't care about the boys kissing, big deal. Madonna and Britney did this years ago and it got them just as much attention which is what this performance was intended to do.

This boy is a product and his marketers are coaching him on how to sell his brand. Guess what? It's working. People are talking about him. Good, bad, or indifferent, it's all "good" in the PR world.

I am EXTREMELY liberal, I won't go into detail just how, but this one got me cringing a bit. I mean, come on, do we really need to see crotch to face grinding?

We shouldn't just be outraged at this, but at all incidents of sex being used to sell.

This should spark lots of conversations with your children about how we shouldn't degrade ourselves.

Flip to create a good conversation and perhaps we can negate all the icky stuff!

  27. I'm so glad that you've posted this Deb. I'm usually pretty open minded about things, but I was so offended by Adam Lambert's performance, and not only his. There were others, including Janet Jackson's that was offensive too. There is a difference between art, and simply doing something for its shock value, and more respect needs to be shown for a person's right to choose whether or not to view it. Certainly, I wouldn't have expected such a performance, even at that time of the evening, on a television show that wasn't specifically for adults. I often feel the same way during sporting events that are televised. During the World Series, Fox was showing commercials for a terrible horror movie. They are one of the worst offenders when it comes to showing such things. Even baseball isn't safe for children any longer. I agree it is sad that the world is losing it's way into things that are so dark. I don't believe in censorship, but there should be more thought given to place and time, and yes, even though we are always able to turn off, or not even watch the television, we aren't always able to be viligant for every child. Not everyone has a parent who cares. Society needs to be there for those children too.

  28. Oh, and I'd just like to add that my unhappiness with the performance was much more about the fact that it was terribly demeaning to others, not about sexual orientation. I too, support gay rights, but this was totally not about that.
