Corners of my Home Thursday

O.K., this is probably not a [kitchen] corner that anyone is dying to see, but it is a rainy gloomy day here and I was pretty limited as to where I could get a half-way decent picture. I just wanted to show you this idea I borrowed from Martha for disguising the trash using an old pickling crock....

In Martha's book, Good Things for Organizing [love this book], she had a roofer make aluminum lids to fit various sized crocks which could then be used to store garbage, recyclables, or even dry pet food. Instead of an aluminum lid, my husband made a wooden lid for me out of a 3/4" thick piece of plywood cut to the diameter of the crock. I added a wooden ball for a knob on top, painted it, and distressed it a bit. Then I bought a tall plastic wastebasket to fit inside and lined it with a trash bag...voila!

Have a great day everyone!!!

  4. Love the trash idea. Anything is better than an open, smelly trash container!

  6. I had to tell you...yesterday I read this and loved the idea but was thinking that I'd never in my life seen a crock that size. Today I stopped in a little store beside the gas station (getting gas for the mower) and as I was leaving, I saw a giant crock! It's not exactly like yours..it's a bit darker in color on the top half, but about the same size I think! $5 and it was mine. :)Now to get Tim to make me a lid. lol

  7. Debbie, I just wanted to let you know that the tissue holders arrived and I am so happy with them. The packaging was done beautifully and the detail work on the tissue holders was just wonderful. I could tell a lot of hard work and expertise went into making them! I will definitely be back to purchase other things:)
    Thanks,
    Susan P.
