upholstered stepstool

I found this fabric at Joann's recently and thought it would be great to cover the old green stepstool that I keep in the laundry room.

I had decided against repainting it as I like the orginal green; however the top was missing quite a bit a paint. A perfect chance to try another idea from CK's In Print~the 'oilcloth upholstered stepstool'. Only, since I didn't have any oilcloth, but I do have this nice rose print, I decided to try Clarice's technique of covering the fabric with clear plastic.

After two trys I ended up with this. I had to redo my first attempt~nothing but problems~but in the end hopefully it looks halfway decent...

It's very handy, and the steps fold up under the stool so it doesn't take up much space in my little laundry room...

Now I'm off to paint, which is what I was really supposed to be doing today!

  15. I really like the covering at your stepstool. And a great idea to cover the fabric with plastic, when you not have a oilcloth. I have done something like that with a stool I got. It looks great. I have painted the stool pink, and have used a polka dot pink and white oilcloth covering it.

  16. Considering I don't do much ironing, (we wear crumpled in our house), I would do loads if I had your laundry room. Actually I'd probably just go in there sit on your lovely step stool and have a cuppa coffee in such lovely surroundings as your laundry room.

  17. How you managed to get the plastic to sit so perfectly is amazing - the stool looks great and the fabric compliments the orginal green paint very nicely. You've got me thinking about my kitchen stool now, lol! Your work is very inspiring Debbie!

  20. I just can't get enough of your laundry room! I, too, love the Cath Kidston oilcloth. I have an old pink step stool (not as nice as yours) in my landry room. I would love to try to cover the top with the plastic/fabric method. Thanks for the inspiration! Cammy
