Shorter days and cooler evenings are here, and already I've been picking up my knitting needles and browsing the knitting books. One of them is Classic Knits by Erika Knight.
Here a just a couple of the sweaters I like...
If you are interested, there are more pictures from the book posted here.
Will you be doing any knitting this winter?

The sweaters are lovely and tempt me so much but my knitting skills are quite rudimentary. I knit only scarves and washcloths (for gifts, us, and donations)--one of these days I'll move forward with my knitting.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could knit. I tried about a hundred years ago but my placemat grew with each row. As I was teaching myself, I just gave up. My hairdresser has offered to teach me to knit in exchange for some sewing skills. Just might take her up on it. I buy my sweaters at goodwill and they are always nice, but handmade would be even better. Am anxious to see what you decide to make.
ReplyDeleteI've been knitting all summer, but it is more fun in the fall and winter. I knit from her book Simple Knits for Cherished Babies. I like some of the patterns, not so enamored with others. I look forward to seeing how yours turn out.
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE that 3/4 sleeve cardigan. I cannot knit, but my daughter can. I learned to crochet when I was very young, but just couldn't seem to grasp the knitting. Whitney is great at it - maybe I'll buy the book for her and she can make me a gift?!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see which ones you make.
The two sweaters in the middle are my favorites....you'd look great in the short-sleeved number, though! I'm working on a shawl to keep by the back door to wrap around myself when I run out for the mail, to collect eggs, etc. Just an everyday sort of thing. I know I'll choose another project after that, I'm just not sure what it will be yet!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to do lots of knitting this fall and winter -socks, some fingerless gloves, a shawl and I'm hoping to make my first sweater. (probably way more than i'll actually get done but at least I have a goal.)

Oh, i really wish i could knit, but i don`t! The knitted sweathers always looks so warm and romantic :) I just started learning how to make a few stiches, so i think this is just enough for me right now :)But i am interesetd to see what you are going to make though!

Yes I have taken out my needles and purchased some new yarn... It seem as though Autumn is the perfect time for knitting, and the knitting bug is bitting so many in blogland... Enjoy your knitting. I cannot wait to see your finished piece.

Well, my daughter and I routinely knit while we watch movies. BUT we just knit very large rectangles!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's is taller than her and she's 5'7" LOL. I wish we could knit something more useful - but we have fun anyway.

I love the Kelly cardigan, named after Grace, do you thing. I have been knitting all winter but it seems mostly dolls clothes and dish cloths. I did finish a jacket for myself and a shawl for my daughter and have a couple of other things almost done. Enjoy your winter of knitting.
ReplyDeleteKnitting is my passion. I have to remember that I have enough yarn sitting at home in my stash. I just love the pictures that you have posted.
ReplyDeleteI love the sweaters...I love that it's cooling down enough to be wearing them soon!

I know I don't have the patience for knitting, but I so admire people who do.
ReplyDeleteThe sweaters are pretty, and classic. My favorite look.
I shall tell my friend Beth about this book. She is a wonderful knitter too.
Best wishes!
I do plan to try my hand at knitting again now that cooler weather is here :)
ReplyDeleteI have yet to master the purl stitch...sigh...
Knitting is on my list of things to learn. It's a long list...
ReplyDeleteBTW, I have something for you.

I never learned to knit. My mother knitted (she a lefty)~ so it was hard for her to teach me. I have learned to crochet~ perfect craft while watching TV. These patterns are so classic~ never to go out of style...
ReplyDeleteDeb,
ReplyDeleteI think you're amazing! To look at a book of sweaters and decide to choose this one or that one to knit and then just make it.....well, that's talent!
Enjoy your knitting and I'll be cheering you on!

Love the sweaters the cardigan is my favorite. This past week I knitted a mohair scarf and last night I started another one. They are pretty simple and work up quickly someday I hope to do a sweater. Are you working on any project right now?

Deb,
ReplyDeleteCome on over for a visit!! (hint) Also, would you be able to make my daughter, Hannah (9) one of those "cool" vintage type knitted or perhaps crocheted caps that just pull down over the head so far. Do you get the American Girl catalog? There is one in there on a new doll and we LOVE it. It would look so nice on my Hannah and maybe even my Livvie. Let me know OR perhaps you could visit their website and see it there. I imagine their link is American Girls...Let me know...if you are too busy just say so too:-))
Love, Peggy
I've been knitting washcloths this summer and am quite pleased (since I'm not very good at it!). For now this pattern is enough. I would love to tackle a sweater one day. I will look forward to seeing postings of your progress.
