The napkin swap with Rhonda was a great excuse for me to buy a new gadget. I had found a great tutorial over at Purl Bee for napkins with a contrasting binding ~ binding which I could make myself if I had one of those little bias tape makers. I bought one at Joann's using my 40% coupon. I was really hoping for a Clover, but they only had a Dritz model in the size I needed. (If you are going to buy one, I would get the Clover brand~from what I've heard since, they are much easier to use.)
Anyway, I was able to make lots & lots of bias tape to edge Rhonda's napkins. I made a little patchwork hot pad for her as well...
And for those of you who liked the wonderful tea time embroidery which she sent me...
...Rhonda has made the pattern available here.

A huge thank you to all who left anniversary well-wishes!! They are very much appreciated ~ you ladies are the best!!
I've wanted a bias tape maker, but I wasn't sure if they really worked. Your napkins turned out beautifully! Do you think you can order the Clover one from Clothilde? I would love to have one in time to make some Christmas gifts.
ReplyDeleteI have one of those bias tape makers from Joann Fabrics! It is still in the package. You have inspired me to use it.
ReplyDeleteYour work is absolutely beautiful. I just love the patchwork you do.
Have a great Thursday!

Question for you since this is easier to find out here than to drive through traffic to any fabric store - does the bias tape maker come with a pattern? I have tried and tried and tried to make one from scratch, but cannot get it right. Help a gal out here! ;)
ReplyDeleteI just love my napkins and the little pot holder. I've used the pot holder, but not the napkins - yet. We're having guests for dinner tonight so they may just get a showing then. Thank you for the work you put into them, Debbie.
ReplyDeleteOH Deb, they look absolutely fantastic! LOve the patchwork, such a wonderful idea :)Thank you for sharing that!
ReplyDeleteI know i am a bit late, but congratulations with your marriage for 25 years!! And the best wishes for the text 25 :)

Those are really pretty! You guys did a great job! I love to sew, but I'm not very good at it! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThat gadget's new to me but it seems like a handy thing to have. Your napkins are just beautiful and the hot pad you made is sooo cute! Love it!

Love your napkins, Deb! I have the Dritz bias tape maker and I've never even used it. ~ Lynda ♥
ReplyDeleteThe napkins are beautiful and what a sweet idea to make the hotpad too! Gena is right, these would be fabulous Christmas gifts!
ReplyDeleteDeb~ You have such a way with crafts! Talent, creative, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning,
ReplyDeleteI decided to visit after seeing your blog name on Sharon's (Rose of Sharon) blogroll. I love the name. You have such a lovely blog and as I scrolled down and read (Happy belated Anniversary, btw) I saw your Homemade award. I love that little girl and I have a huge wooden shutter-kinda-looking-thing in my hallway. It has that little girl painted on it. I love it. It was a gift from my aunt years ago. I have never seen anyone else with that same picture. :)
Love,
Julie
Beautiful! Good tips for the bias maker, I've never used one, I just iron my self-made bias strips in half. I've wanted to get the Clover one though, I keep hearing good things about it. (Also adding my Congratulations on 25 years of marriage--we just celebrated our 26th)it all seems to have gone by so fast!

ReplyDeleteI've been thinkin' about getting one those bias tape makers, but now I've made the decision to go forward! Thanks for posting these great pictures to give a gal some courage!
ReplyDeleteOh, what pretty napkins! I do *really* like that look of the simple, solid centers with print trims. I just got my leafy-fall fabric all ironed to make some fall napkins; now I want to trim them in bias tape! :o)
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you have a new toy, Deb! The napkins are so pretty and I love the potholder! You used some great fabrics for that and the calander fabric is such a fun touch! Good job! I just took a peek at your firefly website too and browsed through your great items. You've sold a lot! :o)
ReplyDeleteBecause of this post I got out my clover bias maker for some ties on a pillow. It was sooo much easier than the manual method I'd used for the first one.
ReplyDeleteHiya - I have been looking at bias binding makers but am confused by all the different sizes, I presume that you need different for different projecs, so can I ask what size you used for your napkins and would this be an appropriate size for binding pot holders and placements?? Any advice is most gratefully recieved.
