Most days I head out around two o'clock to give the horses their lunch, feed the chickens & cats, and check for eggs. If the weather's not bad I love to take a walk up the lanes and trails.
We have not had the most colorful fall foliage this year due to the drought.
Remember Pia...well Pia is now Pete, not the girl we were told she/he was. Our vet set us straight when she came out to give shots, and this is not the first time this has happened...
The hens...well they have not laid an egg in weeks/months. I am not sure what their excuse is, but I really, really hope they get back to work soon...
The wood pile is growing slowly. Yesterday we had our first fire in the woodstove...
Today is much warmer, so after my walk I planted some Gladiator allium. Every couple of years Brecks sends me a $25 coupon with no minimum purchase required. I love it (!) and pick out something that I wouldn't normally spend the money on, like these beauties...
Only, I had no idea which end was up when planting the gigantic bulbs ~ I hope they are smarter than me and can find their way UP next summer!

What a lovely area you live in! Country living is something we're talking about doing next year too. I love the train ride you shared about in your last post. NY is a place I have dreamed about visiting since I was a little girl! Hopefully one day!

I would love to live in the country. I have those bulbs as well and enjoy the blooms all spring.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos, and breathtaking natural country side beauty... Wonderful to wake up to something so lovely each day. I love the country, and looked forward to visiting my Grandma and Grandpa's farm each summer as children... I remember us children going and taking eggs from the chickens. There is nothing like a fresh hen egg...mighty good! :o) Hopefully your chickens will start to lay soon. :o) Have a lovely rest of the week...

Your country pictures are beautiful. What a lovely, peaceful place to live. When summer comes I hope you share the pictures of the blubs in bloom.
ReplyDeleteLoved the train trip from the last post sounds like it was fun. Linda
Wow, that's a great coupon! I don't think I've ever ordered from them before. I loved seeing the pictures from your walk. Hope your chickens start laying soon!

I usually go for a walk up the lane and into the woodland area at 2 o'clock (straight after watching neighbours!), to collect kindling stick for the fire. Shame our lanes weren't near each other !
ReplyDeleteOur hens are rather rubbish at laying at the moment too, the quail stopped laying in the middle of september and won't start again till middle of march.
You live in a beautiful spot! To be able to walk and enjoy such beauty - you are truly blessed!
ReplyDeleteDid you like those bulbs from Brecks? My husband and I have been thinking in planting them next fall - but I have yet to see them in person :)
Thanks for sharing.

My hens have been on strike for about a month ormore too. I think they are molting and the shorter days do affect their laying. I usually put a light in the coop about this time of year and they start laying again. Beautiful chicken!:>)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful visit today. i like the life your display with such grace. Hens get to laying!
ReplyDeleteMy, what gorgeous scenery you have!
ReplyDeleteA very pretty place to live.
I love those huge purple Allium. I used to have them in the garden...not sure what happened to them. Maybe something ate them?
Kimberly :)

ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing view to wake up to each morning. Your walks must be wonderful :-}

What a truly lovely walk this was Deb. Thanks for taking me along.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the beautiful photos....my grandparents were Old Order Amish and I soooo loved to visit their farm. You reminded me of the peace that I found there. God Bless, Pam, South Bend
ReplyDeleteWe had something similar happen. We had a precious hen we named Pollyana. However, after full growth, and a belated crowing, we found out he was a Paul.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't have the traditional comb and waddle, so it was hard to tell for awhile.
Your blog is one of my very favorites. When I found it, I read straight through from the oldest to the most recent. I have already made the mini wallet and a waffle knit dishcloth. My next project is to sew a quilted potholder to a knitted cloth. I love the idea of using fabric scraps.
