Today was the Fall library book sale. I never know what treasures I may find ~ almost without fail something good awaits.
Today I found Familiar Quotations by John Bartlett...
~
To live content with small means;
to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion;
to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich;
to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly;
to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart;
to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never.
In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common.
This is to be my symphony.
"My Symphony" by William Henry Channing
Great quote -- thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteWonderful quote. It says it all, doesn't it??
ReplyDeleteThat was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat is so true and so timely! I think I'll have to print that one out to memorize.

I love quotes. That one is certainly one to ponder. I don't get around to my blogs regularly anymore. New marriage, new business, teenagers! and still trying to get some craft time in makes it hard to get to everyone. As a result, I didn't know about your dad and I hope he's feeling much better. My prayers are added to the mix.
ReplyDeleteI love the quote. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
That is good food for thought! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeletei like that
ReplyDeleteA good one to "chew" on for a while.

Thank you for the quote. It is the way we strive to live. Sometimes life doesn't let that happen. A reminder to get back to that is timely.
ReplyDeleteI just read you post in the winter Artful Blogging. Congratulations! I really enjoyed it. I'm enjoying your blog also and have added it to my blog roll.

Yes, I'm trying.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite books! I've got two copies. I used to sit for hours when I was younger and just go through it page by page. It's a treasure everyone should have.
