September begins...

Canning::
This week the tomatoes have been keeping me busy. They are not lasting well on the vine, so I picked as many as I could and have been canning some each day {plus we've been eating a lot of tomato, basil, & mozzarella salads :) }

Sewing::
I've been working with this wonderful thick nubby cotton that I found this summer at a yard sale ~ soon to be a zipper pouch and a tea cosy, but neither finished yet.

Treasure hunting::
This small vintage globe bank found for very little $ at a yard sale.

Baking::
More Paula Deen zucchini bread ~ this time with chocolate chips...also excellent. Recipe found here.

Blooming::
Sunflowers, zinnias, and cosmos!

Growing::
Birdhouse gourds are growing up the chicken yard fence and providing a nice little bit of shade. Sadly the gourds are yet so tiny that I don't know if they will ever get big enough.

Crowing::
Yes, it's been determined, finally, that our little punk rocker is a rooster...

...so now we have two!

I know some of you are patiently waiting for answers to your questions--I have lots of flagged e-mails and will do my best.
Thanks for taking time out to stop by!

    We also had an abundance of roosters...2 of which met their maker yesterday. Still uncertain about #3...depends on how mean he is/gets!

  5. I really enjoy reading your blog. I wish my tomatoes produced, but when it rained for almost two months straight, I knew harvest wasn't going to be good. I almost miss canning. I definitely miss eating my canned goods.

  6. Great update as usual. I love that nubbly cotton and great place to find it as well! I can't wait to see the finished products.

    Soon the garden will be harvested and the cool weather will turn to cold and snow and then we will be thinking about Christmas once again! :)

  17. Just found your beautiful blog. I was really hoping to can some tomatoes this year, but my canning tomatoes just didn't do anything. Maybe next year.

  18. Nice birdhouse gourd vines! I have some, and also snake gourds but they are tiny compared to those. The pumpkins are also small and later this year. Everything is late really, the beeksteak tomatoes are still green! I've made a little green house tent for them for the cooler nights. Have been enjoying the smaller varieties, though.
    It's interesting to see the progress from different areas around me, especially with the mere 10 days of summer we had.

    Dear Debbie:
    I wonder if you season the tomatoes before you can them or are they just crushed and packed into jars?

    We grew cherry tomatoes this year but the nights were to cold to produce like they usually do. I'm just getting to read your past entries and I love your blog.

    A friend in MT suggested your blog. I'm enjoying the Farm Life posts...and your roosters. Is Walter a Silver Polish then? We have Buff Laced Polish and love them. It looks like you have a Buttercup Rooster, too. We have 2--both surprises. Curious what yours is like. Nice to "meet" you.
