brewing some rose water

Since the batch of soap and the lip balm went so well, I'm now gearing up to make homemade moisturizing lotion.   And, since one of the rose bushes has begun to bloom, why not make some rose water to use in place of the plain distilled water...rose water is great for dry, sensitive or aging skins {ME!}. It has a tonic and astringent effect and is very soothing to irritated skin.

I've used the distilled method in the past, but today I went the quicker route and made a rose water infusion:
  • I gathered lots of rose petals after the morning dew had dried
  • placed them in a mason jar
  • covered them with distilled water I had brought to a boil
  • I'll let them sit overnight & tomorrow I will strain out the petals
I'll let you know how the moisturizer-making turns out,

Deb

  1. Rose petals on these wild shrubby roses are so fragrant and beautiful. I hope the rose water works wonders. I should try it too. There's a yellow rambling rose bush blooming next door!

    1. You're right, the wilder type roses do smell the best--there are some other roses I've planted that have absolutely no fragrance--very disappointing...Deb

  2. Hi Deb, rose water is super lovely. I have never made my own. I am a bit lazy I guess. I use honey straight from the pot for a cleanser, then rose water to tone, then coconut oil for moisturising. Works well but I do sometimes miss the creaminess of a good moisturiser. I'm inspired to try your beauty recipes! xx Fi

Making rose water is really that easy?! Sheesh! I need to make me some :)
Now if I can only keep the black spot off the bushes this year. I seem to lose at this every year :(
