in the garden

Life is full of plenty to do this time of year.  Despite the
fact that we are officially in a drought,
the garden is doing surprisingly well--we've done a bit
of watering, just enough to keep everything going so far.
Right now we're picking zucchini, cucumbers,
{the lettuce is about done}, strawberries, blackberries,
a couple raspberries from the new starts,
and blueberries.  The banana peppers seem close to
being ready.  The string beans are growing tall and beginning
to blossom even though the Japanese beetles are making
swiss cheese of their leaves.
The zinnias are all in bloom and everyday I have been
meaning to bring in a bouquet--maybe tomorrow
after I get the blackberries and blueberries picked,
washed and frozen...and before I start on another coat of
paint in the dining room...Deb

  1. Sounds like I know how you feel! All this successful gardening on top of keeping house and kds is a full time job. I need to start painting, too... Hope you are well.

  3. Hey Deb, it's all happening in your garden, those strawberries look mouthwateringly good and I just love Blackberries.

Am a big fan of Zinnias too, I grow them in Summer and it's great to give bunches of them away to friends.

Hope you get some good rain soon, we've not long come out of drought and being on tank water certainly makes keeping the garden alive a balancing act.

  4. Thanks so much for sharing your garden pictures. Here in IL the drought and heat is so severe that the few plants I've nursed along are only just surviving...no growth and some look cooked by the heat. I really enjoyed your pictures, it looks like a summer garden ought to look!

  6. Oh, those beetles just bite! Our first year in an organic community garden and they've had a feast! How do you keep them away?

  9. Great looking garden Deb, wish we had a good crop, the rain has made gardening almost impossible this year.
