fold-over tote

I just love making bags because each one is unique...that's
the great thing about using salvaged
materials--the possibilities are endless, it seems.

This is a fold-over tote I recently added
to the shop.
It's made of tough canvas from an old army
duffel bag, and has short leather handles as well as
a removable leather shoulder strap.
An outer zippered pocket creates the fold line
for the fold-over top part of the bag,
and the other side has two large open pockets,
great for stashing phone or keys.

I'm planning on keeping the sewing machine
busy over the weekend...and getting
some pie crust dough made for those
Thanksgiving pumpkin pies.
Hope you have a good weekend!

  1. Hi Deb - you're so clever. I've been meaning to ask you how you manage to sew the leather handles on? You must have an industrial strength sewing machine to handle that?!

    1. Hi Lilian,
I just have a Viking Platinum 715, which is able to sew through the handles. The leather I buy is supple and about 1/8" thick...Deb

  7. Really nice bag! I love up-cycling too but haven't tried working with leather yet. I'm inspired!
