We had been sitting at the table a bit, eating brunch,
when I realized I shouldn't still smell
cooking food...ugh! the burner had been left
on and the now empty pan was smoking away.
Our whole house was filled with
unpleasant odor...
I'd been saving my orange peels for potpourri,
so I threw some in a pint-size Mason jar,
along with cinnamon sticks,
cloves,
and vanilla bean,
filled it with water
and set it on a trivet on the woodstove.
Before long, things were smelling
much more pleasant.
Of course, this is wonderful any time...don't wait
for a burnt pan to give it a try!

I saved some lime rinds the other day(I have some orange in the freezer)...do you think lime will work and some peppermint oil?
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to try this next time we fire up the wood burning stove. We're still having 80° temps here ...and it's DEC 3!
Oh well, the firewood should last until February when it's really cold!
:) have a great week, Pat
Hi Pat,
DeleteI’ve been putting some rinds in the freezer as well I think the lime would smell wonderful, and the peppermint oil as well! I will have to give that a try…
We’re in the 60’s today—quite unusual for Western NY in December…I’m headed outside to plant some allium bulbs and enjoy a little bit of sunshine.
Have a great day,
Deb
My husband loves to do this will a few evergreen pieces thrown in. Once we cut our tree he mixes this up and scents the house with it on nightly basis.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea!!...I'm going to try it. I just cut some evergreens for a wreath yesterday and will throw some pieces in next time.
DeleteThanks Bethany!

This looks like a great idea! And it looks beautiful too!
ReplyDeleteI love the simple ideas that just say warmth and home. It doesn't get any better than this...thank you.
ReplyDeleteI keep a small enamel pot going on my kitchen stove all season long with many of the same ingredients. Ginger also smells nice in it. It smells so Christmas-y to us! Great idea to put it on the woodstove, too. Good excuse to make up another batch. ;o)
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to try this afternoon ~~ thanks for the inspiration!
