Above, is our bedroom--before. Our iron bed is starting to pull
apart in spots, and it just isn't that comfortable for
sitting up against to read before bedtime.
It was decided a while back, that we would build a new
headboard over Christmas vacation.
We'd been reading Ana White's new book,
as well as browsing her website
and decided on the Reclaimed Wood Headboard.
A stack of red oak boards salvaged from a lumber mill
scrap pile years ago, seemed perfect for the project.
Mike did the hardest work, cutting, planing and sanding the boards--minimally, as we wanted to leave them looking a bit rustic.
I used the drill, nail gun, and biscuit cutter,
and we both assembled and glued.
I stained the headboard with Zar walnut
and waxed it...
The only thing we bought, besides stain, was some hardware
to mount the headboard to our existing bed frame.
We are super happy with the results
and are trying to decide which of Ana's plans
will be next!
I'm thinking the Turned Leg Farmhouse table
and Mike is favoring the Media Towers and Console
I love your new headboard! I would love one like this in my bedroom too. I'm going to have to check out the book to look at the projects more. My husband would enjoy getting into more woodworking projects.

DeleteI love the new headboard...but I'm really in love with the big huge roses and the color of your comforter. Lately, all we see is grey on grey, white on white...with only small touches of red or blues...but this is old-fashioned (not outdated) and honest looking! I love it.

I too have a flowery comfort (for warmth) on our bed...but I love it's old-fashioned feel.
Y'all did a great job on that head board, and I have an old iron bed and your right!...it isn't comfortable to sit against and read or anything.
Plus you have the wonderful memory of making it together!

Thanks Pat! I made that floral duvet cover years ago--found the Ralph Lauren fabric at Walmart, of all places. Once in a while I change it out in the summer, but it always ends up back again and I will probably keep it around for as long as it lasts :)
