sewing and red velvet cupcakes

February...I have to admit I'm glad it's over and we are one month closer to Spring.  March has brought us a couple days of sunshine and 50 degrees, though tonight another storm arrives--a Northeaster--and we can expect 7 to 12 inches of snow and temps down to the single digits.  It has been a good winter to get some basement cleaning, sewing, painting, and baking done.  I've gotten a few totes and pouches sewn, the two above which can be found in the shop; and I finally finished the slipcover for our couch.  Next up, some new seat covers for our kitchen chairs.

February is also birthday time for one of the kids and I made these Red Velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.  I have good luck with recipes I've found on allrecipes.com, and this one was no exception.  They are delicious, got rave reviews, and the recipe makes 30 cupcakes.  I froze up the extras, which tasted just as good after being defrosted.

Hope are out of the path of the storm and enjoying some warmer weather.  Have a good week,

Deb

  1. I'm not a huge fan of red velvet cake, but these certainly look yummy with that woderful frosting. Love your new bags/pouches. I so look forward to your posts. We are expecting the same winter storm as you and have to say I am so over Winter. This will probably put us at more than 80 inches of snow for this season. We already broke our all time high record from 1977-1978 (Blizzard)of spprox 74 inches.

    1. Dianne,
I did freeze the extra cupcakes with the frosting, not sure as to how that would work out. Surprisingly they held up great--we would just take out a few as needed and eat them soon after they defrosted.
I usually find the materials for my bags at flea markets or yard sales....Deb

  4. My girls are taking a cake decorating class. I picked up some pretty liners 70% off after Valentines for them to enjoy.

Red velvet cake is a favorite, I like that site for recipes as well. I am in the process of knitting a vintage lace scarf from directions I found on "thecastingoncouch.com" and am loving the pattern but I want to start using up my small fabric stash so you've inspired me to get out the sewing machine.lol My in-laws are in Upstate NY and are totally sick of snow!! Hang on Spring is almost here!
