houseplants tour

I've gone a little crazy over houseplants lately.  Spring fever must be to blame, and they certainly are helping ease the wait for some gardening weather outside.  I never spend very much on them--usually under $5. Overgrown plants get divided and I've even had success growing cuttings from geraniums
Here's my little houseplant tour...sadly I'm not very good with names:

{new fern from our local garden center--brass planter found at Goodwill }

{ kalancho thysiflora from Home Depot--my favorite! }

{ I divided an overgrown African violet into four plants--it was quite overgrown. }

{ On the piano...no idea what this one is. }

{ Peace plant, actually blooming! }

{ Snake plant or Mother in law's tongue (?) in the dining room; supposedly needs very little light.  The container was found at Goodwill as was the silver plated bowl. }

{ A Boston fern that came in from the porch for the winter. }

{ Unknown succulent...Home Depot and Walmart have had a good selection, very inexpensive too. }

{ Another succulent, called Gollum. }

{ Another of the divided African violets. }

{In the sunroom, Jade plant on the far right...I'm not sure what the other two succulents are called, though the smallest may be donkey's tail. }

{ Another succulent in the sunroom planted in an old tin cup. }

{ Another snake plant. }

Now, of course, I've thought of a couple plants I left out, but I'm sure you've seen enough for one day.
Enjoy your week!

  1. I can honestly say I don't have one single houseplant. None! I swear I have a black thumb because I cannot keep one alive! Yours on the other hand, look lovely.

  2. You have planted the idea in my mind. I'm looking for some plants the next time I get to town. Yours look very nice. I do have a Christmas cactus that is doing quite well.

  3. I have no houseplants either, but have to say I'm dying to get out there & lay my hands on one or two after this post. Love the Boston Fern, always dreamed of having a beautiful healthy Boston fern in my living room.....plants always seem to shrivel up & die in my house though.....must try again :)

  4. Houseplants sure do offer a pleasant and refreshing touch to homes I think. Yours are eye-candy , especially because you've arranged them so nicely in and among your home and shelves. I especially like the succulent among the arrow heads.

  5. Houseplants are so beneficial to our health! Every single houseplant I currently have, have been FREE slips from wonderful people in my life.

    Piano plant is part of the snake/mother-in-laws tongue family. It's a "birds nest" plant.

    I'd love to know more about your geranium technique? I attempted to transplant a particular plant last year in my hydroculture system to no avail! :S I'd like to attempt it again if you'd share your experience.

    TFS all the wonderful "spring" with us!

  6. Deb I see Anne identifies the piano plant as a birds nest, Tony thinks it might be a bromeliad.

    Gosh you have green thumbs!

  7. Wow that's a lot of house plants... and here I was thinking I was doing good keeping two lowly asparagus ferns alive over winter. LOL.

  8. Thanks for the tour! I like having house plants around too. And, like you, I never spend very much on them. I'm always happier spending money on plants than a bouquet of flowers....they last so much longer. I usually limit myself to only a few varieties that I know will survive under my care though. :-)

  10. Lovely pictures of your plants and BOOKS! I was wondering, have we ever seen your childrens' rooms (now young adults of course). And I didn't comment a couple of posts ago, and seeing it again reminded me, but I love your huge red clock!

  12. Hi there, I remember when my kids were small I would have loads of houseplants around my home and I loved them but now I'm a senior and live in an apartment I can't seem to keep them alive. I'm just stopping by to say how delightful your blog is. Thanks so much for sharing. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

  13. Love your houseplants. I need a few more around my house, just have to talk Hubby into it as he feels constrained by greenery.

    God bless.
