It's been a whirlwind two months since the last post. January 31st was our last day at the parsonage, and we were moving things over to the new house right to the bitter end. We still have belongings in two different storage units ~ lots of purging yet to be done.
There is so much finish work yet to be done in our new little house. We have been working on the pantry so that we would have somewhere other than the bathroom sink to do dishes...
We still have to decide on what we are doing on the wall behind the sink, which will probably include some shelving. All the trim work is yet to be done, and the free door I refinished will go on the laundry room closet.
As you can see, no big farmhouse sink. After receiving, in pieces, the one we ordered, it was decided to go with a Zuhne stainless steel drop-in sink instead. It's roomy and deep--perfect for hiding a stack of dirty dishes if necessary...
I did get curtains made for the bedroom and hung them on bamboo poles from the garden center. We still need a door, closet doors, and trim.
The kitchen won't be finished until after we get the living room done. Mike will be installing a hearth and the Jotul gas stove, laying the oak flooring, and finishing the trim work in there and will then move to the kitchen to install the soapstone countertops and sink.
Below is a view from the kitchen to a small entry hall and the pantry. Eventually the hallway will get a tile floor...
My next goal is to get the kitchen cabinets all painted...
Thanks for stopping,
Deb
So beautiful!...Love the first picture of your new home in winter.
ReplyDeleteThanks Leianna! I appreciate your visit...Deb
DeleteEverything looks so fresh and lovely in your mansion ;) To me, it's a mansion, as the only home we've lived in our whole lives while raising our children is a 1200-square foot tiny house, but I'm all for living in smaller homes because there's really only the need for so much space and despite the size of our home, we've hosted gatherings here of upwards of 80 people at a time. Yes, 80. We get imaginative and though it's never spacious, it's always filled with love and fun and that's what matters. Anyway, I've been happily following along with your blog and instagram and enjoying seeing the progress of your lovely home. I wish you many years of blessings there.

Thank you, Linda, so much! I am looking forward to many fun-filled gatherings here, encouraged much by the fact that you've hosted up to 80--that's fabulous!
DeleteIt's so good to have you following along,

Oh Deb it's lovely! I knew it would be but it's great to see it as you finish. The first photo is especially beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rose! Hope all is well with you,

Everything is coming along beautifully!!! I love it! We are in a time of transition as well ~ we put on an addition with a new living room, laundry room and entry way. I have been painting the living room (after weeks of my hubby and brother in law working on building the walls, drywall, mudding, sanding, priming etc.)...we are getting so close now. I can't wait to have everything in its place!! :) I bet you feel the same! I can't wait to see yours (and mine) finished!
ReplyDeleteThank you Katy! How wonderful to be getting a new addition--I hope your new spaces are ready soon.

Looking very nice Deb. I can not wait to see the whole house finished with your lovely decorating ideas.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks Jackie, I appreciate you following along,

Simply beautiful! Very classy...your taste! We have a drop-in sink like that. Our earlier sink was a very thick porcelain and after a decade it started to rust, so no more. I love your countertops. I recently got in granite and would never do that again...they actually chip if you bang a kettle around like I tend to do...esp. around the sink. Andrea
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea! I appreciate your kind words and visit,

Yea! You're moved in. What a thrilling time for you. Just curious, with all of the work that your husband is doing in this house, does he work outside the home also? You can see all of the unfinished work yet, but what we see is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Melissa! My husband works full-time, but saved up several weeks of vacation to work on the house. At this point he's just working on the house nights and weekends, so it will take awhile to get everything finished up.

ReplyDeleteIt's exciting to see your home taking shape. We just built a pantry in our new addition... no sink or windows in ours, but it IS wonderful to have somewhere to store everything. Thanks for sharing your progress!
ReplyDeleteThank you Laurie for stopping by!

I am so enjoying seeing this process of your "downsizing" home creation. Would love to know how many square feet you have now, how many bedrooms, baths, maybe even a floor plan some day. Do you plan to vegetable garden in the future?
ReplyDeleteYour hard work is so impressive. Everything is lovely!
Kim, thank you! The house is 1396 sf, has two bedrooms, one full bath, and one half bath. I will try to show a floor plan in future. I cannot wait to get my vegetable garden started! All the frames for my raised beds are piled up out back. As soon as I can have them moved in to place and filled, I will be gardening.

I love your new house inside and out. Your taste and mine are the same. Your choices in flooring, kitchen cabinets and furniture are perfect. I will continue to follow your progress. I LOVE your bed. Cindy Huxtable
ReplyDeleteThank you Cindy! My husband made the headboard.
DeleteGlad to have you following along,
Deb
It's coming along beautifully and it looks like it's going to be cozy and homey! I love the color or your bedroom. May I ask what color paint you used? My bedroom is in need of freshening up and I think your color would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzanne! The bedroom color is Benjamin Moore Barren Plain. I just love it---the light gray color does change throughout the day as the light changes--sometimes it seems to have almost a rosy glow.

It's lovely! But I'm so confused. It looks like you have wood counter tops - where are the soapstone ones going to be? Also, it looks like your kitchen cabinets are already painted? And the sink is already installed? Am I reading it all wrong?
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the confusion. The wood countertop, sink, and painted cabinets shown are in my pantry. The kitchen will eventually have the soapstone.
DeleteThank you for stopping by,
Deb
Thank you! I figured it out after I read it again. Have fun decorating your new space!
DeleteSO nice to see a home coming together. I am sure you will love the home once it is finished.
ReplyDeleteOh Deb, It's all coming together so beautifully! I know it must feel long to you, but it seems like just the other day you were moving to the parsonage. I truly love seeing the updates. Blessings, Darby Logan
ReplyDeleteYou're working so hard and it's turning out to be beautiful! I love the (oiled?) wood floors. So natural and livable.
ReplyDeleteI was confused for moment about the kitchen too, then I realised the first picture was of the pantry. How beautiful is that pantry, what a dream. Love the wooden flooring. Looking forward to seeing how the house evolves.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. Your since of style is something my eyes always enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYour new home is lovely, and I love your decorating style. I just love reading your blog, seeing your home, the beautiful things you make and especially how you turn old unloved pieces into things of beauty. Can't wait for the next instalment. Joanne, Albany, Western Australia.
