corners of my home~garland, marie clare idees, barkcloth

This week has absolutely flown by. The storm that hit our area last weekend closed schools, work, and left many without power, some still without power as of today. Luckily we did not lose power or suffer any damage at our house, and I have enjoyed having my son and husband home Monday and my daughter home all week.

I got the Halloween banner, that I made Friday, hung up in the foyer. Dianntha had a question about the letters that I wanted to answer. I found the alphabet at Martha Stewart.com, the same one which I used to make an Easter Garland here. For my Halloween garland I printed the letters out on newspaper to get the black and white background. Just be careful if you try it...one of the pieces of newpaper did jam in the printer and I was lucky to have a husband who works with computers!

My husband and I spent a nice afternoon at the bookstore this week and I picked up this magazine for the first time. I loved what I saw and had to have it....it's full of great craft projects that I can't wait to try. I have added a subscription to my Christmas wish list!

We also spent some time at a local antique co-op and I came away with this beautiful barkcloth panel. It's in great shape and there's over 2 yards of fabric which I'll probably use for some bags, although a part of me hates the thought of cutting into it.

Have a fun weekend everyone!

  2. The banner turned out great Debbie!
I sometimes run fabric through my printer. I iron it onto the waxy side of freezer paper first. The freezer paper sticks to the paper, stiffens it enough to run through the printer and then it just peels off when you're done. It might work with newspaper too. The newspaper idea is such a good one...I really want to try it!
I was smiling all through this post. I just bought this issue of the magazine too and thought I would add a subscription to MY Christmas list! I love the pattern for the owls and thought it would be fun to make some of those, but I think I'm overdoing my computer/crafting right now. The arm/shoulder problem is flaring up more. :>( Maybe next year. The barkcloth is beautiful and it's so hard to come by. I think you should just keep it if you can and enjoy it.
Hope your weekend is a good one!

  3. Mrs Staggs, we ladies certainly are thinking alike...Copper's Wife and I are both making the same fingerless gloves pattern in the same exact brand & color of yarn!

  4. I just wanted to tell you that your garland is just charming. That was such a great idea to print the pictures out on newspaper, I never would have thought of that! Have a wonderful weekend:)

  5. I very much like how the garland looks with the pumpkin in the foreground and the 'background.'

I love Mrs Staggs idea - I hadn't got around to it yet but I was going to try running fabric through on applique paper but then I would have to applique it to something...

I've tried brown bags but had a dreadful time of it.

If you want to save a lot on subscriptions, go to MagazinePriceSearch.com. The site will do a price comparison and show the lowest prices available. I just went to the site and NetMagazines.com has a two year (24 issue) subscription to Marie Claire for $7.20. It has a code that lowers the price from $24.00.
As you fill out the information, it appears that you are being charged $24.00, but the code generates the reduction at the end of the transaction. I am giving magazine subscriptions to friends and family, for birthdays and Christmas, and this has saved me a lot of money.

I love magazines & especially when you find a new one that turns out to be even better than you thought at first! I really don`t need any more magazines to get addicted to but I would like to try this one too :-)

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  8. How great. I'll have to try that garland! I haven't picked up that magazine yet. I'm afraid..I'm so addicted to Cloth Paper Scissors and all their sister mags.

I inadvertently copied an image over some words the other day and loved the way it looked. I want to try it on a transfer so I love your newspaper idea.

  9. The garland looks so nice, nice with the round things on it. And the magazine looks very interesting. I should look for it myself.

  10. The banner looks great. I haven't given Halloween much thought yet. It's not very big in Australia but our little family usually celebrates it with some special food. I had better get organised.
