It's probably been about a year since I started this summer sweater ~ Peace by Kim Hargreaves ~ and it's finally in the sewing-up stage.My favorite references for knitting are the Stitch'n B*itch books. I bought The Knitter's Handbook because the 'stitch by stitch instructions' and pictures are very easy for me to understand. When I recently saw S'n B Nation on the library sale cart for $1, I picked that up also...
As I was binding off the neck in pattern, it was definitely coming out too loose; binding off in knit stitch was still not snug enough. I checked S'n B Nation and found the answer ~ binding off with a crochet hook (contributed by Edina Tien, Vancouver, WA), and it worked like a dream...
I hope to finish it up this weekend, if I can figure out how to add the button loops and buttons successfully.
Yesterday, I finished up another tote bag for the shop ~ a Laura Ashley floral with a sage denim bottom...

My nineteen year old daughter loves those books too.. Her sister got her one for Christmas last year.. She also loves her knitting machine she bought..The new tote is so pretty..I cut up a grocery sack and am going to attempt to make some of the cloth market sacks this weekend.. I just think your cherry fabric on yours is wonderful! Awesome sweater.

ReplyDeleteI started a sweater last year and then we moved, so I no longer have my knitting group to ask what to do next! I should take it out of the bag and see if I can finish it before NEXT Christmas! LOL

ReplyDeleteYour sweater is gorgeous and so is the tote. I have the same books for exactly the same reasons. My knitting skills haven't progressed around basics, mostly because somehow I keep having to make the Irish Hiking scarf for people (still don't have one for myself) and knitting dishcloths for charitable organizations. That's okay, I'm happy to help folks but I really need to learn new knitting skills. Maybe everyone will get scarfed out and I can move on to new projects. I would love to make something as lovely as your sweater.

ReplyDeleteI really do like your sweater. I like the color of the yarn, but am wondering what yarn you used, since it will be a summer sweater. The tote is absolutely beautiful, and I really like the sage green bottom. I think your blog is so warm and cozy because I love any reference to chickens, especially pictures.
