joys of Spring

Spring flowers and new baby chicks are two of my favorite joys of Spring.  I can't pass up the dollar pots of tulips, which I will let bloom inside then later plant outdoors to enjoy year after year.  I also picked up  a couple pots of pansies for the urns on the front porch, which will tide us over until after the frosts/end of May planting time.
The baby chicks arrived last week via the post office, where we picked them up at about 7 AM,  the box fairly bursting with the sound of all 26 peeping at once.  There are Cornish X Rocks to eventually fill the freezer and Araucanas and White Rocks for egg laying--everyone is doing well out in the barn, warm and cozy under their heat lamp.
In the garden, I've been pulling some leeks for potato & leek soup--my favorite, and I planted two rows of red potatoes and a row of fingerlings.  I also planted two raspberry bushes and a rose bush.  It's impossible to stay indoors when the weather is nice, hence the lack of 'spring cleaning' posts.
Most importantly, thank you all so much for your comments on the shawl collar sweater!!

  1. My kind of gal! I picked up my peepers on Sabbath from the post office; they were cold and ready to come home! I love the peep peep, don't you?? They are so cute!

  2. I haven't had baby chicks in a very long time, but there's no forgetting their cheep cheep sound! I can't wait to get some flowers now that spring is here.

  6. Those baby chooks are too sweet. :) We are having equally gorgeous autumnal weather, very warm blue sky days and just-a-nip-of-cold nights.

  13. Cute chicks!! I know what you mean girl! I've been outside because it's so nice out but every time I walk back in the house I see spring cleaning that needs to be done just about everywhere! I wish it would rain for a few weeks so I can stay inside and work... Lol!

    Have a delightful week~

  14. Deb - I have 'showed' your donkey to a couple friends...

Is that as big as he will be? Is he a pet or does he have a job? Does he know his name?

    Inquiring minds 'n all that!

  16. Lovely wee chicks, and they look very healthy too.

Here in New Zealand, and in Aussie too, we refer to them all - chicks, chickens, hens, roosters and cockerals as "chooks".

Spring time where you live is looking wonderful. Happy Chook raising!!!

  17. I too am antsy to get out planting. I started weeding and "rearranging" some of my perennials last weekend. We are getting ducks this weekend, an addition to our chicken family!
