thrift store treasures

On my way home from grocery shopping this morning,
I stopped by the thrift store for a quick look.
I picked up these four 75 cent floral plates
to add to my mismatched collection.
And then, I spied the blue & white ticking
stripe wallpaper...I couldn't resist.
At first I thought about lining some drawers
and cupboards; now I'm thinking maybe a wall
in the laundry room...what do you think?

  1. Beautiful plates. We never have pretty plates like that out here. Seeing the pillow in the background I can see why you bought the wallpaper. I think it's perfect for a laundry room!

  2. Those plates were the same as my grandmother's everyday dishes. I don't know what happened to them, but I have amassed a good part of a set thrifting over the past few years. They make me smile. I hope they will make you feel the same........

  3. You got some good buys. Those kind of buys don't exist here in thrift stores. I like the blue stripped wallpaper and I think it would make a fabulous accent wall in your laundry room :-)

  7. I have those plates!! Well, I have one plate and one saucer left. They originally belonged to my grandmother and were a set she collected as grocery store premiums years and years ago. They were passed on to me when I got married to use for our everyday dishes.

  9. Such pretty plates, that was such a good find. The wallpaper is far too lovely to put in a draw - I think it would really brighten up a laundry room.

I'd use it line a drawer or shelves - imagine the "fun surprise" each time you opened them... ;)

  17. Looks like I'm not the only one whose Grandmother had that same pattern of plates. What a fun find for a casual stop!

Laundry room sounds like a great idea. I don't comment often, but I really love your blog and the way you incorporate vintage items into your house.

  18. Gorgeous plates!! Don't you just love thrift stores? My catch from my local thrift store this week yielded 3 wonderful historical-fiction novels for $1.00 each, and 2 lovely European lace pillow shams!

  21. I almost went to the Thrift store myself today too! Now I am regretting it after seeing your pretty plates. That's one of my favorite things to find, pretty little plates. Dessert plates to be exact. Makes for a special time every time I eat on one while drinking a cup of tea. You have some great finds!

  24. I found a complete set of those dishes at a little old ladies yard sale a while back. There are lots of pieces in a place setting-so pretty.

The ticking paper is perfect for your laundry room.

  25. The blue and white would look really nice in a laundry room. I too love old plates. I only have 4 so far because I want them to be mismatched and of a certain style. I eventually want to have around 10 or even 15. Aren't thrift stores the greatest?
