late winter knitting

With Spring now seeming not so very far off,
as much knitting as possible is
being done at random moments during the day
and while sitting in front of the fire
in the evening.
Zimmerman pattern, that I was working on
are finally finished...
{ on Ravelry here }
~
They are thick and warm;
perfect for house socks or as an
extra layer inside my mud boots
when walking the dog or gathering eggs.
~
I thought some new dishcloths would be nice
since the old ones are quite faded
and ready to move on to floor or
wall scrubbing...

...so I've been working on some dishcloths with simple
stripes...just stockinette with a garter
stitch border...

I've also started a shawl,
by Laura Chau.
It's knitting up quickly,
a simple stitch pattern--more stockinette
and garter stitch,
with some fingering weight yarn,
{especially enjoyable with some glazed
blackberry coffee cake}...

Lastly, I decided to recycle an old sweater--one
of the first I ever knit--and make something
I would like better,

A perfect way to spend the end of winter,
I think.

  4. I still didn't get to knitting or tatting this winter (well, tried my hand at tatting, still would like to work on that some)
making some socks would be great! Maybe I could crochet some with the time left.
It is already starting to stay light here a tad bit later and a bit warmer-- so I'm almost done with all that. But still I'd like to...
bit of a flighty comment-- just thinking outloud here on your little blog.
your dish cloths look wonderful and your socks look comfy-- do you find that the knit socks are more comfortable than crocheted ones?

    take care- Pat

  7. You've been a very busy knitter! I love your new socks! Your dishcloths are so cute. I like the colors and stripes. It's hard to believe we're nearing the end of winter because it seems we've hardly had one this year. We've had cold but hardly any rain.

Have a great weekend and happy knitting.

"cool, calm & collected" , or is it rather a "serenity" that shines through cyberspace? Well, that is the feeling I get when I read your blogposts and view your photos. Thank you for sharing your heart and thoughts.

I have been knitting dishcloths for friends and working up your waffle cloth in their "custom" kitchen color combos. I have been using Peaches and Creme Lily cotton yarn - I have Micheal's and Joann's stores as sources for yarn. Where do you get the big spools of yarn? Is it all cotton?

    1. The big cone of yarn is Lion Brand 'Kitchen Cotton' in Natural -- it is 100% cotton/16 oz/755yds. I buy it at Joann Fabrics when I have a 40% coupon...Deb

  12. Hi Deb,
Mum and I are knitters. Mum is 95 and knits squares all year round for charity blankets.Mum has kept all our family (including grand-children) in knits for many years. Now squares are all she does...but, she enjoys knitting them for the 'babies' anywhere they are needed. I sew them up for her.
Me..well ..I don't do clothes or anything practical. I knit toys and 'things'...I like to play around with knitting.
    Enjoy your Blog
