...we've been enjoying lots of cucumbers
from the garden...especially good with some humus!
...still picking and freezing blueberries,
though they are finally reaching the end,
I think.
...I started a new knitting project,
Elizabeth Zimmerman's 'Woodsman's Thick Socks'.
I'm using Paton's Classic Wool in dark gray marble.
My first and last pair of socks never made it past
the first heel...I'm hoping these go much
better...maybe they will even get finished
before the snow flies!
...it's peach season and Red Haven's
are my favorite...we came home with an 8-quart
basket last weekend and there will be a
pie before the week is out.
Hope your week is fruitful!
~Deb
Your produce and berries have been so inspiring and appealing! My first and last socks got to the toe of the first sock. But I'd love to be able to mindlessly knit pairs and pairs ( just as I knit dishcloths!)
ReplyDeletePeaches and blueberries--two of my favorite fruits! Looks like you have a good bounty of them both. Good luck on youir socks--just think how warm they'll be when you finish. I'm currently knitting Elizabeth Zimmerman's Pi shawl. By the time I finish with it your socks should be long done!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm a masochist... I love knitting socks! Trust me, once you see the logic in turning the heel, it's a piece of cake.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until my two little blue berry bushes are producing enough to freeze!
Enjoy your day.
Diane
Hi Deb, Once again thank you for an insight into your beautiful home. I love your simple classy style, Good luck with the socks, one thing I have never tempted! xxBrenda
ReplyDeleteI love Elizabeth, Patons, and Red Havens!!! Last week I got a 1/2 bushel of Red Haven peaches. =) My were they DELICIOUS. Canned one batch of jam and the rest are in the freezer.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've been very busy! I was eyeing up the larger baskets.will probably go back and get more, hopefully, so I have plenty to freeze. They taste so good in the middle of winter, don't they?

I told myself I would not try them {socks} again, but here I go.:-)

Thank you for the encouragement :-)

We love peach/blueberry pie.hope to get one made this week. Best wishes on your shawl!

I know, some people are such wonderful sock knitters.maybe I'm not patient enough.

Peach pie is one of my favorites! We are going to Michigan on Thursday, so we will be bringing enough home for freezing and pies. Good luck with the socks. I've never tried it, but my hubby wants some to go with his Burkenstocks. (He's such a hippie!)
ReplyDeleteI don't know that variety of peaches Deb but they sound delightful to me as it's the end of winter here, and I'm a little citrus-ed out.
ReplyDeleteI just finished making raspberry freezer jam and canning tomatoes from our garden. I call it Saving Summer :)
ReplyDeleteI love knitting socks...if you do enjoy the process this time I recommend you find something besides Patons to knit them in. I 've knit socks with it and they wear out veeery fast...and I only wear them as bed socks or inside slippers just before going to bed.
ReplyDeleteFingering weight sock yarn has polymide in it..I think that's how it's spelled. I believe it's another word for nylon. This helps the yarn wear so much better. I don't know if they make a worsted weight yarn with that in it. I might try giving it a look.
Nothing like fresh fruit and vegetables straight from the garden. One of the things I loved most about visiting my grand parent's farm. Fresh produce, eggs, chickens...oh how we kids loved it!
ReplyDeleteWith gentle hints of our soon coming new season, a pair of knitted socks are perfect! I am in the middle of finishing a scarf that will be perfect for the cooler days ahead. Continue to enjoy a lovely week.
Smiles...

Have a great trip to Michigan!
ReplyDeleteI hope Spring will be coming soon for you! Have a nice week Rose :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a perfect phrase--saving summer! I wish I was canning tomatoes--it's not been a great year weather-wise for our garden, and it doesn't look like there will be many tomatoes for canning :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good advice! I'm making these just for lounging-around-the-house socks. If I ever become a 'sock knitter' I will certainly check out the sock yarns.
ReplyDeleteBeverly, as always, so wonderful to hear from you! Thank you for the visit, and best wishes with your scarf knitting.
ReplyDeleteI've just recently finished knitting my first pair of socks. The first one went fairly quickly, but it took me forever to finish the second. I love the wool you have chosen for yours. They will be lovely!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you may want to place a facebook button to your blog. Just marked down this site, but I had to do this manually. Just my $.02 :)

Hi there, what is the canister that is labeled "blueberries" used for? I'm new to all of this canning and preserving stuff. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe canister is actually an oatmeal container that I'm recycling for freezer storage. This is the first time I tried using them for blueberries, so I'll see how it works out.

I am also afraid I might lose interest come time for the second sock. Luckily with size 8 needles, these are knitting up quite quickly.

Your knitting inspires me to knit some socks. I have some yarn that's similar, it's Jojoland's Rhythm in a blue marled tweed. And this has been the first week of school and daughter is looking forward to Saturday so she can make blueberry muffins for breakfast. take care,
ReplyDeleteBlue marled tweed sounds beautiful!-now you've got me thinking about another pair-let's hope I can finish the first! Fresh muffins for breakfast, how wonderful-my daughter doesn't do so often, but I love it when she bakes!

What is that container holding the blueberries? An oatmeal box? If so, I didn't know that could freeze. Do you freeze the berries individually first then place them in the container?
ReplyDeleteI visit your blog and immediately think "I should try that." One of these days, I will! haha.
