Over the course of the weekend I finally finished my redwork teapot teatowel project...
The whole idea is thanks to one of Aina's inspirational posts, which was originally from here. Aina, who is wonderfully kind, has a gorgeous blog. As soon as I saw the picture I knew what I wanted to do with the perle cotton and red striped linen tea towels I had found at the flea market...
I found a very inexpensive Ikea wire curtain system with clips on Ebay, which works perfectly for hanging the towels...
While I was sewing the lace onto the teatowel curtains, I decided to use up some of the lace I crocheted a few years ago. A leftover piece was just the right size for this vintage embroidered tea towel... Hope you're having a great day. Thanks for taking the time to stop by!!
Those turned out soo cute! I love the way they look above your sink.
ReplyDeleteI love'em! How cute.
ReplyDeleteI saw your post just in time! I am about to make my kitchen curtain with some linen toweling that I bought by the yard. In my mind I saw the stripes vertically. Now I know I MUST turn the stripe to run horizontally - yours are so charming! And can I really be happy with them now if they lack some sweet redwork? Maybe just a bird or two....
ReplyDeleteThe teatowel curtains are just charming. I like the way you stitched two different pot designs. Now you'll never get away from the kitchen sink.
ReplyDeleteI sat down to read your blog just after trying to figure out what I am going to do with my kitchen window. I had just stood in my kitchen with a purchased valance that has "to-die-for" crocheted edging on it and wished it were long enough to do what I want to do in there. Then, to clear my brain of muddled thoughts, I sat down to check in with you. And there were your gorgeous creations! I was encouraged to think again of the possibility of crocheting something similar to my purchased piece. Your curtains are wonderful. And I love the tea towel with the edging. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteDeb, this might be my favorite of all your projects so far! Great idea and you did wonderful work on them. I like the Ikea hardware too.
ReplyDeleteI love the crocheted trim on the towel too. There's just something about embroidered and trimmed towels that make me happy, just to look at them!
Oh! Those are just darling (a word i save for especially great stuff!)
ReplyDeleteMy husband's grandmother gave me a set of six tea-towels that I had hanging for years with small wooden clothespins on a clothesline strung across our back porch windows.
Yours look FABULOUS! I just may need to find a place to use those towels in our new home...
Thanks for the inspiration.
Absolutely gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a creative idea - love the crocheted trim.
Just Beautiful! You have inspired me to get the needles and thread out and try some embroidery in my spare time. It's been ages since I did any of that! I love your blog:>)

ReplyDeleteOh, just so lovely!!! I was just enjoying the lovliness of vintage linen yesterday, embroidered at that! Your red work tea towel curtains are beautiful. I'm just finishing up an embroidered tea towel here, and then plan to start a set for my daughter. Nothing so lovely as yours, but I am inspired!

ReplyDeleteThose curtains are SO beautiful! Especially with the sun shining through them. I also love the lace on the bottom of the tea towel. Thank you so much for sharing the pictures.
ReplyDeleteI also love those IKEA wire hanging systems. I want to use them in my bedroom to block my "sitting" room from view since it is my sewing room.
Oh, your new curtains are beautiful! Just perfect for your kitchen!! Your tea towel is lovely too, I love the little bird.

ReplyDeleteI love how your tea towels turned out and they're so cute on the rod as curtains! You're so clever! You've inspired me to start a redwork project too, but they won't turn into curtains like yours. Thanks for the inspiration and "Good Job!" on your completed project, Deb!

ReplyDeleteYour tea towel curtains were beautiful =) I'm just visiting from Rhonda Jeans blog =) But your blog is nice! I like it. I'll come back =)
ReplyDeleteFound this looking for a pattern to make my own tea towels. Do you recommend a certain fabric? Linen? I'm looking for durable + absorbant.
ReplyDeleteLori Ann, I am partial to linen, which is what I used; but I am sure cotton would work just as well.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes!
Deb
I think I'll try the linen. I have a friend who was embroidering on some the other day, and I thought it looked great. Thanks!
