Sunday we spent a great day on a train excursion with friends.
We rode in NY Central passenger cars dating from the late 1940's... ...and had a continental breakfast onboard our car which was even decorated for fall. One of our stops was an old New York Central freight depot, which now contains the largest freight depot museum in the country. The building itself was built in 1905, and is one of the largest and last surviving wooden freight depots in the United States.Out the window of the train...
Our stop at a lakeside winery, where we had a fabulous chicken barbecue and wine tasting, while enjoying a live band...
Much of our trip bordered the Erie Canal. As we went over the train bridge we could see the locks ~ the current ones on the left, and the original five that are no longer in use, on the right...
Another view from the other side of the bridge...
I think this train ride will have to become an annual event!
Hope you all had a great weekend :)
What a lovely way to spend the weekend! Those pictures are beautiful. I would certainly love to surprise my husband with a trip like that - what a great Autumn getaway.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to travel is by rail. Years ago my parents took my firstborn (who was only two at the time) and myself from West Virginia to California by train. It was one of the most memorable trips we ever took. However, I think the sound of a train whistle is one of the most lonesome sounds in the world. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteFun! We have one of those in Washington state as well and it was a wonderful treat when I last went on it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great way to spend a fall Sunday! Great pictures. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the train ride.
ReplyDeleteI bet you had a wonderful weekend. Loved the train ride we "shared" with you.
ReplyDeleteThat last photo was incredible! Never been on a train, except the train thru Disney years ago. Looks like fun!ub
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful outing!
ReplyDeleteThat sounded like a lot of fun!! Very pretty also.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing weekend. I love to travel by train. Many years ago I took the train through the Rocky Mountains and it is a wonderful way to sight see.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun looking trip. I've always wanted to go on a train trip, but we never have. Not any fun trips like that here in Oklahoma.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun!! I don't remember having such great scenery when I took the train from Boston to Buffalo when I was in college. But your photos are fab.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Upstate NY for 12 years...the train station looks like one we went to with our kids in Newark Valley, NY.
ReplyDeleteUpstate NY is beautiful! I miss it.
Hello!! I love this post!!! Your pictures are so wonderful. It made me just want to jump into the scene....sort of like when Mary Poppins and Bert jumped into the sidewalk chalk picture.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the beautiful trip you had. Cheerio!
It's so pretty where you are. I love the photo in front of the train station. That could have been taken a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteWe have a dinner train here, that goes to a winery. The one time I went, it was a February evening. On the way to the winery, it started to snow. Great big white flakes. It snowed and snowed, and was so pretty.
I really enjoyed taking this train ride wiht you. What great photos. Thanks for sharing.
