recently...

It's berry season here, so there's been a lot of picking going on--mostly blueberries, which are going strong.  There are a few raspberries, a few blackberries, and a disappointing amount of strawberries.  The strawberry plants look diseased and I fear I will have to start over again in that raised bed.  We are enjoying what berries we have in smoothies, on waffles, and with yogurt and granola.  The freezer is filling up with lots of blueberries to get us through the winter months.
Everyday I try to spend some time sewing pouches and totes, or crafting some recycled journals for the August festival...although my constant companion is always trying to coax me away for a game of 'fetch the red ball'.
In the sunroom there's been a bit of rearranging, and the once white chimney cupboard {before} has been painted 'whispering wheat' {a Glidden color}.  In the living room, I've hung an oil painting called 'lighthousekeeping' which was found at a local yard sale...it reminds me of my favorite place to spend time in the summer... almost as good as being there.

I scrolled to the bottom of your post before looking at your photos. When you mentioned the painting title as 'lighthousekeeping' I read it as 'light housekeeping'. It took me a minute to register that the painting is 'lighthouse keeping'. It makes so much more sense as the latter. :)

    1. Ah, you're right! I never even considered that :) ...just wrote it that way as that's how the painting title was written on the back of the canvas,

  2. It sounds as though you are having a lovely summer. I'm blanching and freezing corn this afternoon.

    1. My corn seed went in so late, due to the rains, I'm not sure if it will amount to anything, but I'm hoping...
Best wishes with your blanching and freezing :)

  3. Now your constant companion must be called Spot! Those berries look exceedingly excellent.

  4. Your berries look delicious. We haven't had much luck with our garden this year...most people I talk to have had it bad too.
Glad to see you're getting some berries. We usually pick dew berries out around the fence in the late spring and early summer also at the onset of July we usually get figs (grasshoppers ate most of them) the dewberries...just didn't produce much. :/
anyway... love the cupboard...I followed the link to the previous post and let comment there.
    have a great week! Pat

    1. Though our garden was planted a bit late due to the rains, most things are doing well--for us, it has helped that we are using raised beds. What are dewberries, by the way?

  11. I like the looks of your first picture, it would make a beautiful calendar page for July! The red tea-towel...I have one similar to that, is it a M.S. towel? Mine has been used so much it is now torn up but I have yet to throw it away. I think I'll cut it up and sew the red sides together, is that what you did?

  12. The blueberries have been amazing! I love your painting. My favorite painting I found in the weekly summer flea market in our village park...a lovely oil on wood, a super steal at $8!
