the week's treasures & another giveaway

5/21 ~ Comments are now closed.  Thank you all for entering!  I will be back later to announce the winner....Deb   Time again has been flying by and it seems I am not getting very far with the spring cleaning.  On a happier note, I do have some great tag sale treasures to report;  and I have been planning another giveaway thanks to CSN Stores.  They have so much to choose from, everything from cookware to tv stands, that it was difficult to pick just one item!

First, the treasures...
Yard sale and flea market season has begun,
and I am most happy to report that it is off to a great start.
These are this weeks treasures,
total for all - under $10:
small painted table
wicker cutlery basket
Homer Laughlin floral bowl
3 pieces of floral fabric
mercury glass candle holder
old aqua-colored bottle
Now, back to the contest...
I know that many of you like to bake the NY Times dutch oven bread,
{and if you haven't, believe me you will love it}
so you have a chance to win a
Rachael Ray Cast Iron 7-Quart Round Dutch Oven in Blue,
like the one pictured below...
Just leave me a comment,
and if you like,
let me know if you've tried the dutch oven bread
or what is your favorite dutch oven cooked meal.
Contest ends
May 21st at noon
when a winner will be chosen at random.
Thank you!!
~Deb

  1. Just found your blog yesterday and just in time for the fabulous giveaway. I like to make Chili in a dutch oven. I bet it would taste even better.

Awesome, and a pretty color! I too have not been up to date on my housework, just too beautiful outside to enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'd definitely do chili, too - and a great hamburger/vegetable soup we enjoy. To do this in a blue dutch oven would Make My Day! (I use the dutch oven I received with my cookery set when we got married 39 years ago! The handle is off of it and I always have to use a hotpad when lifting the lid.)

Oh, would love a chance to win this! I have not tried the bread because I don't have a cast iron dutch oven. I have been looking for one at garage sales forever, but it seems to be something that nobody gives up!

  11. What absolutely fabulous finds! I love that table.

I never find anything that good at the sales here.

As for the contest...I'd love to win the dutch oven. Not because I've tried the bread, but because I've always wanted a dutch oven. I've got several bread recipes that this would work for, but also lots of casseroles I'd love to make!

Thanks for an opportunity to win.

  13. So when I read the title of the post, I immediately thought that you had found that amazing table during your flea marketing and rummaging adventures and was going to ask for directions. It is lovely, just as your other finds are. I happen to be in the market for a desk, so my eye is trained on tables right now.

I was fortunate enough to have relatives chip into together and purchase a LeCrueset cast iron Dutch oven for me two years ago and I love it. From chili to roast, it is my go-to pan. I've used it for bread as well - my favorite is the pepper and chive version I picked up at a Williams Sonoma some time ago. So delicious - it's my favorite fall bread.

Happy rummaging and flea marketing! I love summer!

  22. I love the Dutch oven and blue is a predominant theme in my kitchen! I have not yet tried the bread, but I recently discovered Tuscan Peasant Bread which is SO easy, and so crusty and good! I will definitely be trying the Dutch oven bread before it gets too hot to turn on the oven! My favorite Dutch oven dish is a Beef Barley Stew (but sometimes I use venison)- It has besides the meat, of course, barley, Worchestershire Sauce, soy sauce, honey and other good stuff! It's a hearty fall/winter meal! V.

  36. Love your thrift finds! I can't resist Homer Laughlin...I think I have a few small dessert bowls that match the one you found. My favorite thrift find of all time was a set of 6 place settings of HL Red Poppy. I love to use it when Autumn rolls around. The wide soup bowls are perfect for stew or chili...both of which are my favorite things to make in a dutch oven! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have never cooked anything in a dutch oven, since I've never owned one! I have, however, had one on my wish list for oh, about 2 years now!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh my ...now that you've pointed me to that awesome youtube video of no-knead bread, I'm already better off than when I arrived! Wow ...neat idea! Please accept my entry, and thank you for the chance to win this beautiful Dutch oven!

  40. First of all, congratulations on the neat thrift finds. All are items I'd grab if I saw them in a sale.

I've not tried the dutch oven bread, but am now anxious to click that link to see the recipe!

My favorite thing to cook in my old, black cast iron dutch oven is a pot roast. I always used to make it in the crockpot, but ever since I first tried it in my cast iron dutch oven, I've never gone back to the crockpot with it. It just comes out so perfect and tasty, hard to describe, but so very delicious cooked that way. :-)

  41. Aloha Deb;
Wow, I would love to have such a beautiful dutch oven! I have a stainless steel one that I use to cook pot roast. I love using one pot for everything. I brown the roast then finish it off in the oven. No need to stand in front of a hot stove when the oven can finish the cooking.
    Thanks for sharing!

  42. I would probably make a stew. Thanks for this giveaway!

  43. My sister makes bread this way. I even gave her MY cast iron dutch oven so that she could make it properly. So I could use a replacement. =)

Love the flea market finds! Thrift stores are pretty pathetic here in DE. Next week I'm going home to MI for a wedding and will get my thrifting fix there.

  50. My fav dutch oven recipe is a peach/blueberry cobbler. We used to take the local scouts on camp-outs where we used the campfire dutch oven to make chicken fajitas & cobbler and the boys would be amazed. But one time, my hubby inadvertedly placed the lid on the gravel instead of the bricks where he was SUPPOSED to, and we had to be careful about eating the cobbler b/c it got little rocks in it!!! Good times. I'd love a dutch oven we could use in our regular kitchen instead of the campfire monster that only gets used once a year.
    Thanks for having a giveaway.
