Orange Pecan Scones

I want to thank everyone who has stopped by here to visit. Your comments warm my heart and I love visiting your blogs--you are all wonderful ladies with such great ideas to share! Here is the recipe for orange pecan scones--I hope you love them as much as I do. Since they are drop scones (and I use my food processor), they are also pretty quick and easy.

Orange Pecan Scones
  • 1/2 c. butter, in pieces
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • grated zest of one orange
  • 1/2 c. orange juice
  • 1 egg, beaten

For glaze:

  • 1/2 c. confectioner's sugar
  • 1 tbsp. orange juice
  • 12 pecan halves

Scones: Combine dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, chopped pecans, sugar & zest) in food processor*, and using pulse, cut in butter til it looks like a coarse meal--be careful not to over process. Add orange juice and beaten egg and combine until just mixed. Drop 12 equal lumps of dough onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 - 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire rack.

* or use a pastry cutter and mix by hand.

Glaze: Combine confectioner's sugar and orange juice, mixing til smooth. Spread a little glaze on each scone and top with a pecan half.

Makes 1 dozen.

These are best eaten right after they are baked!

don't mind the plaster dust, please

We're in somewhat of a disaster state here of late. For the last week and a half we've said good-bye to our textured ceilings (due to some water damage)in the living room, dining room, and foyer...

We opted not to replace the texture and went with smooth & flat, all done by a professional thank goodness, as the clean-up and repainting of the LR/DR walls will probably take Mike & I another couple weeks. Despite the plastic hung, there is plaster dust EVERYWHERE.

{after scrubbing down the whole foyer today}

It definitely calls for a stiff cup of tea and a new scone recipe--one which for me is right up there with my favorite orange scones...

And, Hazel's Simple Scones have three variations::cranberry-orange, lemon-blueberry {above}, and cherry-almond. I've tried all three, and it's hard to pick a favorite as they are all so good.

You can find the recipe here.

Edited::A reader's comment reminded me that Hazel's recipe makes a very sweet scone--I cut the sugar at least in half, as I do with many recipes. I'm sorry I forgot to mention this originally. ~Deb

waiting for the sun

Experiencing a bit of the 'winter blues' or, more accurately I think, the winter grays.

...finding it very hard to get motivated, though there is plenty to do:

~sewing for the shop

~stripping wallpaper/painting entry

~P.I.F. gifts to complete

...drinking some tea and eating an orange scone instead..

...hoping for some sunshine and inspiration, soon!

Thank you, Jaime, for asking, and thanks to all for the nicest comments!
