nature walks resume

"Out in this, God's beautiful world, there is everything waiting to heal lacerated nerves, to strengthen tired muscles, to please and content the soul that is torn to shreds with duty and care."
{Handbook of Nature Study}

I had given up my daily walks due to the mosquitoes, but now they are gone, and today was perfect weather to take a break {am still canning tomatoes}, get out, and head for the lanes...

[Not sure what that beastie-looking insect is on the milkweed pod?!]

Definitely good for the soul.

  2. The beastie on the milkweed pod is a cicada. They are so cool. Around here you can hear them buzzing high up in the trees on really hot summer days.

  3. I was born in NY and spent the first 36 years of my life there - the last five in Upstate NY. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful walk. While I absolutley adore living in Texas, I have to admit that walk made me a bit nostalgic (sp?). This is the time of year I really do miss that little farming community. We spent five very happy years there.

  7. Thanks all for your comments! And thank you alcatmom for letting me know about the cicada. This is the first one I've ever seen, although we've always heard the loud noises that they make.

  8. I wish I could say the mosquitoes are gone but I went berry picking with a friend and we were swarmed! Such a strange year it has been, the leaves have started to turn a little and there are still mosquitoes.

My husband and I bought our lil country home for things like you see in your photos. I just love the country. I acutally wish we lived futther away from town than we do but can't afford the gas =0)

  16. I must apologise, I found your recipe for easy glaze (chocolate) and wrote it down in my recipe book. I used it and wanted to link back to you in my blog, but could not find the source of this great recipe. Well today I found the note that was attached to the recipe so I can now link back to you..... What a wonderful way to ice cakes........
