change of season

Summer here went out with a bang--beautiful, sunny, warm, dry days. We actually went over 3 weeks with no measurable rainfall. Fall is here now though, and suddenly it is dark at 5:30 when I crawl reluctantly out of bed. The mornings are cool and misty, and the rain has returned.
I did fit in a walk around the property on one of our last sunny days. The goldenrod is in full bloom...

...as well as pearly everlasting,
and asters...
...which look beautiful along side the Queen Anne's Lace...

And I found lots of cattails by the swamp...

The lumina pumpkins are ready to harvest...

The wood pile is growing and plenty is stacked in the garage, ready for that first chilly day that will require the woodstove to be put to use.

I'm finding myself ready for the coziness of it all, and looking forward to more time for some knitting, sewing and crafting.

  1. I am looking forward to cooler weather here too. It was in the 40's this morning and I loved it. Oh the smell of a wood fire......nothing like it.

  2. Fall did seem to arrive awfully fast, almost overnight.

    I love the asters.

    God bless.

  3. Doesn't nature make your heart sing? I love seeing pictures of your local flowers. Fall will officially be here tonight as well. The first frost is due.

  4. I too am looking forward for cooler weather and relaxing on the couch with knitting in hand. I don't think I could live in an area that didn't have the change of seasons. I look forward to each season for different reasons.

  5. Autumn is wonderful...as ready as I am every year for the warmer weather, it's really this change to the cooler weather that I love.

  9. love the Lumina pumpkins. I will try to find some seed for next year. We grown Cinderella pumpkins and love them. Wood day part 2 just finished up at our place. So thankful to have that job done.

Fall is my very favourite season. I love getting cozy again.

    blessings,

  10. I love the beautiful photos you've shared. We too went over 3 weeks without rain and every day was beautiful, sunny and warm, which I really enjoyed after a relatively cool and wet summer.

I normally enjoy Autumn, but when the cold weather hit this week, with lows in the 40's at night, the arthritis in both of my knees started immediately acting up and I'm not too happy about the prospects of 1/2 a year of cold weather coming up, because that's what it is here in these parts - warm again maybe by April or May and that's too long without warmth for me.

I especially like the white pumpkins - they're my favorite.
