So far, June has been an exceptional month for the flowers. I have never seen the rose bushes so full of blooms...and, there has been no sign of any of those Japanese beetles that seem to show up every year and wreak destruction. Could our record rainfall have something to do with that?...anyway, I'm very thankful they've missed the party.
Last weekend was partly spent giving the barn a good spring cleaning. A stall was cleared out for the new Araucana pullets who have outgrown the stock tank that they started in. They were quite overwhelmed by all the new space and ran around like Chicken Little. As I was transferring each bird out of the stock tank, I noticed some noticeably bigger than the rest...and a stance that seemed quite roosterish...hope I'm just imagining this...
In my 20 years chick experience... you're probably NOT imagining the cockerels. Sorry. Your flowers are absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou're right Mary Ann, it has happened in the past...and I never really minded. The last few years though we have decided not to keep roosters, and I've found our henhouse to be more peaceful...this may change things up a bit :)

I have a very peaceful Araucana rooster that I have had for years...in fact his comb is so tiny and he is so un-roosterish, I was surprised to hear him crowing. He and my long gone bantam rooster got along fine. I hope you give him a chance. Mine has NEVER been aggressive and I have had him for years. I always want to have a rooster with my girls!

ReplyDeleteYour flowery photos are so pretty. How lucky you are to have a big barn. I bet it feels great to have it clean and find more space too. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your photographs. I'm in Ohio and we just started getting those nasty japanesse beetles. They arrived late but they are here those buggy beetles make sitting outside a task.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking wonderful and those chicks are too cute :)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. We've had lots of rain, loads of flowers, and plenty of mowing to do. We bought Black Australorpes and Dominiques this year.

Your garden is just so beautiful. Love that rose!!!
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Its cold and raining here on the southern side of the globe so nice to see the flowers. Staying in doors with a raging fire, making soap!
