I have a 2-drawer unit from a vintage sewing machine, which I found at the flea market. Those two drawers sit on my sewing table and hold all my thread spools. It seemed a good idea, but over time the threads have mingled and have become a bit of a jumbled mess...
painted it Krylon 'Celery',
and hung it next to the sewing table.
No more digging. And I can actually see at a glance what colors I do or don't have.I feel very organized now.

I have this same one and LOVE it too!!!
ReplyDeleteyeah for organized!
Great idea! Looks so neat and tidy! Happy sewing! Blessings, Heather
ReplyDeletenice idea - will have to see if I can find a rack like that!
ReplyDeletei have that! now why haven't i thought of painting it? for me, my bobbins fit over the wooden dowels, too. i like to pop the bobbin on below the thread color. keeps the bobbins neat, and ends the 10 million bobbins of white but none of blue problem.

ReplyDeleteJanuary is just the month that makes me want to organize.

I love the idea of painting it...
ReplyDeleteI use this for my spools of thread:

but I think I may run out of room - eventually. I'll have to keep this idea in mind.
I need to pick myself up one of thoses. I am having the same problem you had. thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteSomething about being organized makes me feel all cozy inside! And isn't it fun to see all those colors up on the wall! Enjoy your spools!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea! Being the non creative girl I am, I'd never have thought of spray painting the spool rack, but what a difference it makes. Thank goodness for the inspiration of creative bloggers like you!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
G
Thanks for the idea to paint my thread rack. I have 2 of those in the garage and I have been redoing my sewing studio today and thought about getting those down and using them again. Now I will have to get them for sure!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are always so inspirational!!

Very nice - mine are more of the former example right now - but hoping to straighten them out after the move.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed reading your blog, Deb! I've got one of those spool thingies but I haven't been sewing for a long time. I should paint mine now, and maybe it'll inspire me to get busy!
ReplyDeleteSuch a craft maven, you -- I never even thought of paint my thread rack -- I have arranged it in spectrum order though!
ReplyDeleteOne of those was on my Christmas list...I think it may be my next coupon purchase to me!! Thanks for the painting idea, too.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I'm BIG into organizing! =]
ReplyDeleteI have one of these, but hadn't thought about painting it! That has been my mantra lately: "you can paint anything you want, any color you want" Life is so much more interesting that way. Thanks for the reminder! ~Abbey
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great idea... I've got the same jumbled up spools in a drawer and in a sewing chest!
ReplyDeleteHey Deb! This is a cute idea...think I'll have to paint mine now. I have a couple of the old sewing cabinet drawers...attach picture hangers to the back and they make nice little shelves. Saw it at a flea market, so I can't take credit for the idea. But I am a good copier!
ReplyDeleteDeb, my dear husband made me a thread holder for the wall in my sewing room. Every time I see it I smile that he actually noticed me digging through a drawer after a certain colour of thread.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Ahhhhh, that's MUCH better for you and your thread!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect solution and how clever of you to paint it for a more vintage look.
