From the hen house:
It's been an exceptional summer for eggs--apparently
the girls don't mind the hot, dry weather we've been
having. So, besides smoothies, I've been making
a lot of Dutch pancakes for breakfast--perfect
with some fresh-from-the-garden strawberries or blueberries
and a dusting of powdered sugar.
~
In the garden: we're been picking zucchini,
peppers, cucumbers, collard greens,
cherry tomatoes, more blueberries, and just yesterday
got some green beans and full size tomatoes.
~
In the kitchen: I had some dried blueberries left
from last year, which I made into some of
I bought three different kinds
of local honey at the Amish store--buckwheat,
basswood, and clover--and discovered that I love
clover honey in my English breakfast tea.
The basswood is very mild flavored and perfect
in my early morning cup of mint tea.
The buckwheat honey, I found out, has great
medicinal value, and so I have been adding that
to our morning green smoothies.
~
Thankfully the living room/dining room/hall
painting--both walls and floor--was finished
yesterday. I can't wait to get all the furniture
back in place, and, I don't want to see another
roller or paint brush for quite some time :)

On the fun side, there's a bit of journal crafting being
done for an upcoming August festival, as well
as lots of sewing yet to be finished...

Hope your weekend is happy!...Deb
I love it all. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I just have to say that I love the stained glass window you have hanging there!
I love your journals too!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warmly,
Katy
What a lovely, homey post. The scones make me want to make a trip to the kitchen. The "girls" aren't laying as many eggs as I'd like, but their are only 5 who are old enough to be laying. Two of them are three years old and past their prime. No stew pot for them! We have plenty of room; so, they're in retirement!
ReplyDeleteI have some blueberries and thought I'd try the recipe, but the link doesn't work. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteAs always, love your blog. Thank you.
Chris, I should have checked--it is an old link. I promise I will post the recipe with my modifications, ASAP....Deb
DeleteDeb, what are Dutch Pancakes? Different from the ordinary buttermilk pancakes?
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you accomplish all that you do.
Sharon
Things are looking good! I'd love to go picking blueberries from your patch. I want to know what Dutch pancakes are too.
ReplyDeleteHello, what lovely shades your eggs come in! Only brown and white here.
ReplyDeleteI love honey in my tea too, I shall have to hunt down some clover honey as I havent tried that one before, my favourite is grey box at the moment.
Just reading your post is getting me impatient for warmer weather, its still winter here in Australia!
Blessings
Fresh eggs and veggies sound so good! Your journals are very sweet. I love your window sill display. Very pretty. xx
ReplyDeleteLove this post!
ReplyDeleteI thought of you yesterday as I watched the TV news report about the memorial for Sarah.
Praying for that family....
Would love to know what you put in your green smoothies and get your recipe for those lovely looking scones.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful summer going on for you and family. . .I'll be watching for the journals!
