a finished baby quilt, a new basket, and some totes

The baby quilt is finished!...just in time for the shower this past weekend.  The hand quilting with perle cotton went fairly quick, but still took me some time just working on it a little each day.  I decided to use black & white gingham for the binding and intended to finish it with hand stitching, but was out of time.  I ended up using this Fast Machine Quilt Binding tutorial, and it worked wonderfully.  The quilt was then popped in the washer and dryer which gave it that nice puffy look.  Already I'm considering what the next quilting project will be--maybe that Amish quilt top that I started repairing long ago...

Because I can't seem to work on one project for too long, I took some time out one day to make a cotton cord basket.  The dogs' toys need to be contained, and I thought this would work well.  I'm very happy with the basket, which was so easy to stitch up...but, no sooner is my back turned, and Fluffy has every toy dumped out, the basket in her mouth and proceeds to shake the living daylights out of it.  The basket has now been put away for its own safety.

Despite some snow last week, it seems Spring has finally arrived.  Some daffodils and forsythia have appeared around the old garage.

Some new bags have made it into the Shop, and I'm now working on some vintage book cover journals.

There's been a reader request for a peek at the Parsonage kitchen, so if you are interested, stop back later this week and we'll take a little tour.
Thanks for visiting,

Deb

    1. Thanks Angela. I just used fabrics I had on hand, most left over from other projects and many from my scrap bag....Deb

  2. The baby quilt turned out so lovely. I've been wanting to make a rope basket, was it difficult?

    1. Thanks Patti! The rope basket is not very difficult--I used this tutorial: http://weallsew.com/2013/06/06/coiled-rope-basket-by-juliette-lanvers-for-weallsew/ I actually had fun learning how to sew it up, and now my daughter has requested one, so I can perfect my skills :) Deb

  4. Lovely basket. Thank for the tutorial site, very helpful. Have you seen that soulemama.com is also making these baskets? She just used acrylic paints to decorate hers instead of the dying process. I'll be back to see more pictures! Wondering if you've been able to plant anything on your new homestead yet.

  7. I do love that quilt ! And your bags...the basket looks like it would be fun to make and so useful too. I might have to add yet another project to my already large heap of projects and make one or two for myself.

  8. Gorgeous baby quilt! Love the playing kittens/puppies and the scattered letters. The gingham binding is just the job. I'm always stuck when I get to the choosing-binding-fabric stage.

  9. The quilt is so very lovely!!! Very nice work, as always. I enjoyed all of your photos and the update. Glad that spring has finally made an appearance your way! Thankfully we've been enjoying it here for quite a while now in Central Illinois - I've already had to mow many times since the beginning of April and gardening is well underway.

Looking forward to your kitchen tour! : )
